Rice cereal @ 3 months old but told NOT to mix it in bottle?
Our ped. said we can give our little guy rice cereal but we were told to NOT mix it in the bottle, but to feed it to him with spoon.
I forgot to ask why we couldn't mix it in his bottle. Does anyone know? We did it last time without our other child.
I tried giving it today to him with a tiny spoon, but it didn't go over so well.

wow, that's pretty early to give cereal! my ped says at least 4 months. i think you're not supposed to put it in the bottle because they can choke on it that way ?!

i think they consider it a choking hazard in the bottle.
I did it anyway. DS was HUNGRY ALL THE TIME, guzzling 6-8 ounces per feeding, every 3 hrs.
He also was using a level 2 nipple at 3 weeks old, so i think he could handle the quicker flow pretty easily.

I thought it sounded early, too....but she said he's such a big boy and seems to have a large appetite, and this may hold him over a bit more. I really watered it down when I tried to give it to him. He watches us intently when we eat... you'd think he was starving!

Yeah, that sounds like this kid. He seems to have an insatiable appetite!

i actually used a steak knife to make the level 1 nipple holes larger to use with cereal in the bottle... I barely used the level 1s and didn't want to buy more

My DD is a chunky monkey and definitely is a good eater! I started formula this week and she could only make it 2 -2.5 hrs after a 4 oz bottle so then i started giving her a 6 oz bottle and she can now go 3-4 hrs.

DD is 3 months old and our ped told us to put either the rice or the oatmeal in her bottle due to her reflux. It is perfectly safe with the proper nipple. It makes the formula or BM thicker which is really helping with her spit up. We were told to put it on a spoon in about a month to begin her introduction to solids. Good Luck
