Anyone online date

I know most on here are married, but I was just wondering if anyone else uses online dating sites to meet people. I have found that almost a dissapointment. Too many choices for the guys. You get to know someone, but then then get another wink. Anyone feel this way??

I have a friend who did this. She met her husband online years ago and it turned out to be a disaster. Seven years later she divorced him and jumped right back into it. It was one nightmare date after another. I don't know how she did it. To me, personally, I think the guys are there just to see what they can get from some women who act desperate. Not to mention, most of them have major issues. Not all but alot do. I have seen it with my own eyes and it's horrible.
I have never done it when I was single because I have friends that have and It was horrible just seeing the disappointment and ridiculousness that went on. Not to mention the wackos you do come across.
i know many people have had success with it.. and that's good for them. Me, personally.... I would rather just meet someone out than online.

I have a friend who has tried every online dating service to no avail. I have never tried online dating but I met an ex bf online by accident. A few too many cocktails and when I went to go aim my friend, I mixed up two digits. I actually dated the stranger for awhile.

I think some guys are seriously on a dating site because they really do want to meet someone and not just to waste time. Granted, Im sure some guys are on it and not serious about it, but I dont think that hold true for all men. I hear so many stories of people that have met online and are very happy. I think online dating has become popular and more accaptable. Some guys have issues regardless of whether they are online or not.

Me too. I think its just like any other kind of dating - you meet some losers or people you just aren't compatible with, but then hopefully, the right one comes along.

I agree...DH and I met online and have been happily married for five years.

I met my DH on Jdate. Funny story, actually - my close friend kept bugging me and bugging me to do it - I kept dragging my feet because I had seen her use Jdate for the past year, go on close to 75 dates and was still single, so I figured it was a waste of time.

So, she finally convinced me. I created a profile. That night I saw Dh's profile - I emailed him. He emailed back. We met. A week later we took down our profiles. A year later we were married

My friend used to write for Philly Magazine - she wrote an article about her "50 Jdates" - in it, she references me, and how, when she was helping me move in with him, she really just wanted to push me down the stairs because she was so ticked that it took me one week, while she had been on there for over a year and NADA

End of the story - she met her hubby (on jdate) - got married a year later. Two of my other closest friends also met their hubbies online.

Hang in there - give it time - when you feel overwhelmed, take a break, and then come back. He's out there, I promise!

I have a friend who was divorced. No one single to go out with (we are all married). I pushed her to do it. She met her match on Match.com in about 9 mths. They are now married over a year, he is a great guy from not too far where we grew up.

Also, he didnt want to meet someone divorced, and she didnt put that in her profile so they "appeared" to be a match. Also her build...she was a bit heavier than average. Her profile she didnt know what option to pick yet his said he wanted athletic or slender. She was worried...but she met him, told him the truth and turns out he said he didnt really care...just chose "ideal" things as his "preferences". He also chose to meet only women so close to a certain Manhattan zip code (not her!). Then what happened was he broadened that distance and that was when his profile was sent to her email. Turns out, he just wanted to meet women close to his job so he could meet up with them for dinner after work. So once again, it was all about small "preferences" that would have led to them meeting or not meeting. I believe it was fate.

What "appeared" to be someone who would not "want" her, actually did. It is funny the way things work. I think it is a great option and if I was single i would do it in a heartbeat. I am sure there are a lot of choices for people but it is all about persistence....

I met more liars/losers/players in person or thru others, than she did online.

I'm helping my MOH with her match.com profile now and she's getting winks from OLD GUYS...Like to me really old guys (50+) when she is in her twenties and asked for nothing over 35...a lot of pervs out there, but you just need one...

I did online dating as well.
While it is not how I ended up meeting my SO, I thought it was a good way to meet people.
Yes, there were some....um...interesting ones out there, but there were also some really nice, normal, interesting, smart people as well.
Id definitely say to stay with it and see where it leads!

i met fh online. we live about 5 miles from each other and had mutual acquaintances. we would never have met otherwise.

A close friend of mine met her DH online, and my cousin met his wife online too.

The way I see it, meeting someone on an online dating site is just as probable as, say, going to a bar on a Saturday night and looking to hook up. And no one looks down on people who do that or think its weird or impossible. So hang in there! It's just another "iron in the fire" for you - if it's not going anywhere, keep looking in "real life," ask your friends if they have single guy friends (that's how I met my FH!), go to bars/clubs, strike up conversations with guys in bookstores... there are a million ways to meet guys. Online dating is one of them, and in my opinion it's a pretty good one, but it's not the only one. Good luck!

my sister met her dh on match! and let me tell you.....they ARE the perfet match!

she did meet a lot of weirdos though! but in the end, it was worth it for her.

I know lots of people who met their spouses online. I tried it and enjoyed it but it did not turn out to be where I met my husband. I was extremely careful screening online prospects and if something did not feel right, I would not meet the person. I met mostly really nice guys, just not the one. I did not find that many of them were looking for one night stands or hookups. In fact, I thought that many of them were looking to get serious too fast.

I met my DH online 4 years ago. Despite the complaining I do about him on the Parenting board, we are perfectly suited. We never would have met otherwise so I am grateful to match.com.

ETA: I was only on there about 3 months total but I didn't meet any weirdos or anything. Everyone I met was actually really nice and fun to hang out with- only one really bored me to tears. So if you are careful and do good screening, I think it can be successful.

I met my DH online. I was VERY turned off to the idea at first, but found it helped open the door to meeting people you might not have otherwise. I only went on 4 dates total before DH.

I do think it's like meeting someone out in a bar, only at least they are not drunk.

ETA: I was only on it about 3 months and just about to cancel when I met my DH. We really are a perfect match, and are expecting our 1st baby right around the 3yr anniversary of our 1st date.
