Anyone not want to breastfeed?

I really don't like the idea of breastfeeding. However, feeding the baby breast milk is important so I plan to pump my milk and bottle feed.

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

Honestly, I don't love the idea of the actual ACT of breastfeeding... BUT there are so many health and nutritional benefits for both me and the baby I plan to go for it full force. I hope that I am pleasantly surprised.

This is what I planned on doing as well. This will also allow for DH and family to feed the baby as well.

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

HI girls, I'm sure more of the experienced mamas can weigh in... but that was my plan "B" after BFing was SUCH a struggle.... I BF'd and supplemented for about 2 months. Spent month 3 pumping, and still supplementing with formula. I feel like pumping is not much better than BFing, the main reason is even the BEST pump (which I have) is not as efficient as the baby suckling. Sooooo you spend just about all of the time that baby's sleeping attached to the pump, and let me tell ya pumping is a very lonely endeavor Chat Icon I couldn't get over how ridiculous I looked attached to this pump contraption AND how immobilized you are while doing it. Seriously, you can do NOTHING else, between adjusting suction, holding the bottles, yaddayadda... All while baby sleeps and you're desperately trying to catch a few zzzz's yourself... and pumping WILL diminish your BM supply apparently so you have to be extremely consistent with the times and amounts you pump, you're really a 'slave' to that pump....

So now I've switched over to formula and we're so much happier Chat Icon

THere are LOTSSSSS of momss who've done straight pumping and had a much better time of it; I share my experience just as a heads up. I seriously thought it'd be the best of both worlds but unfortunately there's no 'easy' way to get that liquid gold to our LOs...

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

35 weeks + here and still on the fence about trying...I was never gung-ho either way, if it worked fine, if not fine...My DS didnt latch ( had a clam reflex they called it) so I pumped and FF for the 1st 8 weeks....let me tell you- IMO .....pumping $ucks !!!!!.....Very very time consuming, and took away time from me with my DS...I was very successful at pumping, always had great supply but feeding was double time because basically I had to pump, and then feed the baby right after just because thats how timing works out...so it was constantly feed, pump, feed, pump ...and then ofcourse wash all the little contraption pieces- LOL

I have a feeling if this baby doesnt latch, I will "probably' go straight to FF, maybe only pumping the colostrum in the hospital since it is very good for baby...Besides the fact that I have a 3yo and don't know how that would work out at home....The lactation consultants at the hospital were "bullies" Chat Icon , but I won't let that happen again- LOL !!!...We'll see, whatever happens happens !

ME!!

I don't want to breastfeed and am not going to do it at all. My niece and nephews, cousins' kids, etc all turned out a-ok without it.

I agree with you.. I am not 100% sold on the idea.. I was actually just thinking last night about just pumping and not nursing.. its the nursing idea that freaks me out, and I dont know why...

Formula fed! It's possible I just made up that abbreviation!

I don't know anyone my generation (I'm 30) who was BF (out of my friends at least), and we are all fine, and quite healthy. My cousin is a pediatrician and gave me the facts about babies being protected by our immune systems to 6 months of age even without breast milk, just from being in us for 9 months. And I am sick of everyone pushing it on women too.

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

I will be honest - I have ZERO, and I mean ZERO interest in breast feeding or pumping - and that doesn't make me selfihs or a bad person -

......But it's very important to my DH (probably b/c my MIL is so 'for' it ) so I agreed to pump and bottle feed the baby - But I'm not making any promises.
If I'm miserable, the pumping stops

I'm in the same boat. I would strongly prefer to skip breastfeeding altogether but apparently this is VERY important to DH. He won't back down.

Usually DH always lets me have my way but once in a while he'll feel super strongly about something, I tend to let him have it. This is one of those things.

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

from a BTDT mom, I think if you are on the fence, I Would recommend you at least try it. It is a great bonding experience. I bf'd and supplemented my dd with formula from day 1 and looking back on it, BF'ing her was the most relaxing stress free time of my day

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

I was totally uncomfortable with the whole idea of BF. I didnt even consider it to be honest. My DD has been formula fed from day one and has been a great eater. But to each his own.... if you want to try, try... you may LOVE it. I have a friend who SWORE she would never do it and now 3 children later, its all she's ever done. Good luck!

Ummmm, b/c they're MEN and don't have to DO the work !!!! It's very easy to tell someone "this is best" when it doesn't impact YOU at all !! -
I swear if men had to do ANYTHING involving pregnancy, the human race would cease to exist !!!

His argument is the health benegfits to the baby ..........I have yet to find anything solid and nondisputed though ....
If someone would like to send me the info, I'd be more than willing to read it and grateful for the information b/c I can't find anything concrete stating 'breastmilk is better than formula'

Probably cause it is the best for the baby, not that there is anything wrong with FF (I supplemented dd with formula from day 1) but nothing mimicks breast milkChat Icon

DITTO, the whole idea doesn't sit 100 percent with me, but bc it's so good for the baby I'm going to go full force and do it!

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

I never wanted to. Did much research and decided it wasn't for me. No regrets here as I have been tired enough without the demands of BF and having to drink all that water to stay hydrated, etc. I think BF is very tough on a new mom in so many ways.

Re: Anyone not want to breastfeed?

I wanted to breastfeed but couldnt for a number of reasons...so DD was on formula from 2 days old on per doctors orders. I did try to pump but it just wasnt working out.

You have to do what is best for you (mentally and physically) and in the end that will be what is best for your baby whether that ends up being pumping, BFing or FF.
