Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

My daughter will be 3 the end of September and seems to have no interest in the potty. We did the 3 day training and it didn't work.
She's supposed to be potty trained for preschool (but they said pull-ups on). So I may have to go that route.
She knows what to do....I just feel its a control thing! Any advice?

Why didnt it work?? FM me if you have questions. I used the 3 day potty on both of my kids, and also on a few friends.

I wish you luck and patience, it is not easy!

My DD trained at 3y3m if it makes you feel better. Chat Icon

ETA - She was trained in 3 days. It was so easy but I think because I waited so long it made the process less painful on us both.

DD is 3 years and 2 months and is perfect with pee.
HORRIBLE with poop
She won't poop on the potty for ANYTHING.
She insists on pooping in her panties or pull up.
I have NO clue what to do either!

Re: Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

She really didn't give an indication she was going to pee. When I saw her peeing I'd scoop her up to sit on the potty and shed have an absolute fit. It would be kicking and screAming to even sit her on it.
That's what I r supposed to do with the 3 day training right? I kept saying tell me when you have to sit on the potty, praised her for keeping dry, NOT asking if she had to go....just didn't seem to work

Are our girls related? My dd turned 3 on Saturday and pees all the time on the potty but poop is a disaster. If I can catch her goon I can get her to her to go on the potty but more times than not she goes right in her panties and has no issue with it. I don't get it!

. Did you stick with underwear on for the 3 full days? The first day was horrible for my dd. se had 14 pee accidents and 2 poop. I never made a big deal of cleaning up. The next day was better only 3 pee accidents and 1 poop and the 3rd day no pee accidents. I used mini chocolate chips as a reward and it motivate her. I gave her 3 chocolate chips for pee and 5 for poop. We're still working on poop but she has mastered peeing. I wouldn't try pull ups. Just take off all her diapers, let her see you throw them away and let her have accidents until she gets a hold of it. Eventually she won't want to be wet.

Yes, she was in the underwear she picked out herself. It's more a matter of getting her to sit....like u said if I see her peeing when I pick her up and starts kicking and screaming.

Re: Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

My DD will be 3 end of Sept as well and not even close to potty trained. Every time I want to do the 3 day training sometime comes up. Its hard to be off for 3 days from work and weekends are hectic since I work full-time. Between her being watched by my parents and in-laws its frustrating. She squats when she poops and I try take her to the potty and she cries and then doesn't do it. No advice but I am glad I am not alone!

The three day plan doesn't work on every kid... My son just fully trained both poop and pee at a little over 3.5 years old... But that was his 4th time.. He was pee trained 2 times. Before 3 and once after 3 but regressed when he got really sick... And then he was fully pee trained again this past April but we moved a month later and he regressed again. I waited a month and within a few days he was fully trained again.. He is basically dry at night too.. I didn't do the 3 day method. I just left him in no diaper or undies when we were home and made sure he had full access to the potty...

. My daughter did the same thing. She would scream and even kicked me. In the beginning I would get her a chocolate chip to eat while she sat on the potty and I brought a lot of books and toy catalogs in the bathroom to distract her. She eventually started to like the potty a bit more. She still doesn't love going an hates being interrupted when she is playing.

Add my son too! He'll be three in late October. We did the 3-day thing a month ago and he was "pee trained" in like half a day. As for poop, he used to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes (I'm not even kidding), sit down and proclaim, "I do poop later!" This would happen...oh, 8-10 times...then like the 11th time he'd finally go. We were on vacation last week though and now he's back to doing it in a pull-up (which he's in overnight), or in yesterday's case, in his bathing suit. Chat Icon Oh, and the worst is he absolutely freaks in public restrooms!

Well, he won't be 3 for another two months and he wears underwear all day long so I'm good with the progress thus far. Just looking forward to the day I can be out and about with complete confidence.

I would not be concerned- when they are ready, they're ready. My DD was 3y4m when she was trained. She was 100% ready and we had barely any accidents.

ITA. I swear by the 3 day method, but you have to follow it exactly. At first DD wouldn't verbalize when she had to go, but I would see the look on her face and scoop her up. Every child will "tell" you in their own way. GL.

Re: Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

I tried numerous times n nothing worked. She would hold in her pee for hours. Finally about three weeks ago i tried the 3 day potty training n it worked in one day. I ised food coloring to make her go on the potty to see what color after peeing it would change to. This helped a lot! My dd just turned 3 in june. When they r ready it will just click with them

My oldest didn't potty train until 3yr4m. My youngest just turned 3 & has no desire. I'm not pushing Tue issue bc I know it causes regression

Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

When my DS was about 2.5 we tried training and it was a disaster - never did it again. We'd just ask him twice per day (when he woke up and right before bed) if he wanted to try to go on the potty and if he said no, no big deal. One day when he was 3.5, he woke up and said he wanted to go on the potty and he did. From that day forward, no accidents, no problems with pooping on the potty, no whining or complaining or crying - it was the easiest, stress-free method for everyone.

I don't really believe in training. When they are ready, they will do it. It makes it easier for them to know when they have to go instead of trying to force them. Show them what to do and ask them if they want to do it and someday they will. As my pediatrician said, he's never seen a high schooler in diapers.

Oh man. Now I feel bad. My DD will be 3.5 next month and I'm lucky if I get her to pee on the potty at all. She just refuses to do it unless it's her idea. She is doing it more frequently now, but we are far from trained.Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

Chat Icon I'm sadly so happy for this post & that I'm not alone!

My DD2 will be 3 in a few weeks & nothing is working. I tried the 3-day, but had to stop into day 2 because it was too stressing on me & her, & IMO not the best for us both.

Lately I've been trying everything, rewards, even down right bribes. Even big sister invites her to go & makes it a point of saying she's stopping from play or a cartoon to use the bathroom.

Some days she'll use the potty when asked, & even wake dry & go 1st thing. Other days no desire, won't go when we take her, & poop has NEVER happened.

Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

Literally 2 days before her 3rd birthday she was potty trained...she started one day and I just went with it and didn't look back...no diapers, none for bed, none to go out, etc. and it just worked. I never forced her or trained her...she was just ready and we ran with it lol.

My DS wasn't trained until 3y 4m. Pee took one day of accidents and he's only had a couple of accidents since (less than 5 in the past 4 mos, including overnights). Poop was a bit harder and we had some regression after we thought we were trained.

I was getting frustrated since all of his classmates were trained and such but, it is so much easier to wait until you are both ready.

Neither of boys were potty trained at 3. With both of them it finally clicked at 3.5 and there was no looking back. Very few accidents. My 2nd ds night trained right away as well. So it was great when it finally happened.

From what I hear on here, from other moms, from the daycare teachers, from the ped- this is VERY common.
Not sure why the poop thing is such an issue.
It confounds me- but it is SOOOO common

Re: Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

DD pee pee trained at 3 years old - and believe me - leading up to it she showed no interest. As for the poop training - took another month. And believe it or not it happened when she had a stomach bug. She had diahhrea and she soon learned she would rather do it in the potty than have to clean up after that big mess! Since then she's been great.
