anyone else have irregular periods?

Hi Ladies,

This is my first post, but I have been lurking for awhile. I apologize for this long post.

My DH and I are TTC our first - this will be month 3 of TTC. I have a history of irregular cycles - it is not unusual for me to skip a month entirely. I started really keeping track of AF last November to try to make sense of my cycles. From November to May my cycles have been between 31 and 39 days. However I have not gotten my period since the end of May! I took a pregnancy test on June 25th and another one on August 1st. Both came back negative. There have been a few times where I thought I felt AF coming but still nothing! I have an appointment with my gyno later on today, but I'm getting nervous!

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Do you think this means PCOS?

If it's PCOS, the dr will be able to tell you through hormone levels in blood tests.

I have PCOS, though I don't get AF at all on my own... I would just ask your dr about it. Through some blood work, they can probably give you some preliminary answers. Good luck!

ETA: PCOS isn't something to automatically stress out over. Everyone's experience is different but I had a relatively easy time conceiving once I saw an RE (3 medicated IUI cycles.. which in the grand scheme of things isn't too bad) . I'm back here now.. but that's entirely unrelated to PCOS.

Crashing...

It doesn't necessarily mean PCOS... you would have to confirm that through blood tests.

I have PCOS and do not ovulate or get my period on my own AT ALL. I got my BFP after 3 medicated cycles with an RE, and it was my 1st IUI.

PCOS is DEFINITELY something that can be treated and you can most definitely conceive with PCOS. You will most likely need help, but don't let that discourage you!!

Thank you both for the reassurance. Back in 2003 I had to take Provera to bring on an absent period. They did blood tests and the sonogram, etc. Would they have picked up PCOS back then? Or, could I have developed PCOS in between then and now?

I have irregular cycles and I do not have PCOS. When I went to the dr they did an internal sono to make sure the uterus and ovaries were ok, which they were. I didnt get a blood test so I never found out why I dont get a normal cycle. When I did the sono they were able to tell that I recently ovulated so that was a sigh of relief.

I tried OPK and temping but wasnt working for me, so I just monitored my CM and checked my cervix daily. I also did acupuncture and drank red raspberry tea leaf for about a month and got a BFP last Thursday.

I have very irregular periods too; always have. My last 3 cycles were 49 days, 74 days, and 50+ days (still waiting... grrr...). I don't ovulate on my own.

Your periods being less than 40 days apart - that's not so bad, really, if you are ovulating. Some women just have long cycles. Do you temp or use OPKs to see if you ovulate?

I don't know what's going on with you this cycle, though... stress? Medication? Travel? Good luck with your appointment today. I hope you get some answers.
