To leave your child in the car ( A human being who is completely reliable on you ) especially a baby that you have carried for 10 months BLOWS my mind. Being tired, out of your routine is NO excuse. You are responsible for your child and those parents who have forgotten about their children for even a second and making EXCUSES or justifying it is even worse. I understand that things happen, but not these things. This is ridiculous, you put your child in the car YOU take them out!!!!! How hard is that to do? Seeing these stories should make you even more cautious. Im not saying that I don't feel horrible for these people, Im just saying IT IS COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE! Your child comes first. If you forget about them maybe you should put a sticker on your dashboard to remind you that you have one.
Maybe something I would have said before I had kids as well.
And your words would have a lot more power if you hadn't put the popcorn at the end. But I suppose that's what you were looking for.
It is completely preventable and I DO have children! The popcorn is there because I knew that this post was going to stir some drama, simply because I have a dif opinion from some of the girls on here. Then usually some of the girls with dif opinions become nasty and they attack.

I find it ironic that you think OTHER people are nasty and attacking.
It's not that we have a difference of opinion.
It's the attitudes and implications from several of you that anyone who has done this is an unfit parent.
Did you even read any of the other posts or the article about how this could happen?

Re: Another story where a baby is left in the car
I just read the link that was posted. I wonder why the daycare center didn't call the parents asking why the child wasn't there? Is that not standard procedure for child care centers? Maybe it should be when they see a child is absent.

interesting... so let me get this straight.. You have a dif opinion.... but people with dif opinions often attack those with dif opinions, so you thought you'd cut them off at the knees and be nasty and post popcorn.
your logic is astounding...

I don't know if the daycare center called the parents in the article. The woman who was Oprah was called by her day care center but she didn't check her voicemail.

Re: Another story where a baby is left in the car
I have to say that I completely agree with bxgell. I had a VERY similiar experience as she did with my firstborn and I know how completely "not myself" I was.....I always feel sooo horrible when I hear these type of stories because, let's face it, no parent deserves to live with the lifetime of guilt that comes with this kind of tragedy......

LOL. Well *that* would really be subjective don'tcha think? I saw some "attacking" going on here - but it didn't start on page 4 with jpgs of "DIF".

Re: Another story where a baby is left in the car
this is such a tough situation for me, I have ALWAYS said this would never happen to me but after reading ALL the posts on here and the link provided, I think that things CAN happen that we never think would. I can only be vigilant and extra cautious to ensure that it does not happen
at the end of the day, loving parents are mourning their child and that breaks my heart, regardless of the cicumstances.

Re: Another story where a baby is left in the car
The thing that surprises me the most about the back and forth on this subject is this:
I can't tell you how many threads I read on Parenting that go a little bit like this:
-I let my DC fall off the changing table. -My CD fell off the bed. -DC fell down the stairs right in front of me. -I turned my back for one second and ... -OMG I got home and realized that I didn't tighten the straps on the car seat!
And EVERY time I see posts like these, the replies are ALWAYS the same....
-Oh, you're not a bad mommy. -We all make mistakes, don't be so hard on yourself. -The same thing happened to me once. -It's OK, accidents happen
For the most part, all of the "bad mommy" posts have happy endings. And everyone is always so supportive to the other moms. When in reality, any one of these situations could have had a horrible result. If your DC falls the wrong way off the changing table, it could be just as tragic an ACCIDENT as the child who was left in the car.
I just don't understand why we can be so supportive of each other's mistakes when the results are not as tragic, but not supportive when a terrible tragedy occurs.

Ok, so let me get this straight.... if a person needs a device to help REMIND them to NOT leave your child in the car then there is something seriously flippin wrong here. People need to WAKE up! Ugh makes me angry!!!!! exactly! I don't care how much a mother lacks sleep, how the he!! do you leave/forget your child in the car? There is just no excuse for something like that....

Re: Another story where a baby is left in the car
I can't sit here and judge because God knows I've made mistakes.
I guess I just can't understand how you forget a child. Only because usually, at any given moment in DD's life, it was quite the effort to get her in the car, between getting ready to leave, and bringing everything needed for the day. So how could I forget, even if she is sitting in the back rear facing??
And mind you, I am a VERY forgetful person. To the point I think I may need help. But I am always aware of DD.
