Airline Question
I am going to Las Vegas in April. I was originally going to stay 4 days but am thinking of extending my trip. American Airlines wants $200 per person plus what ever the additional fare would be to change my tickets.
My question is it really bad to intentionally miss that flight and just book (now) a one way fare back to NY? Would I hold up the plane if I don't show up at the airport? Do I let them know I won't be making the flight?
TIA

Just cancel the ticket. You'll lose the money but at least they wont hold up the plane and they can open the seat for someone else.

Don't cancel! You can't just cancel a return portion until you have traveled the outbound, plus, you may need the return ticket to remain "alive" after all, you never know. You've already paid into the revenue, and Vegas flights are overbooked so don't worry about the seat. I am a travel agent, so this info is legit.

Re: Airline Question
They actually hold planes when someone isn't on? i have never seen or heard of that. how would they even know you were still coming? How long would they hold it for? That would be a nightmare if they did that. Planes would never leave on time.

They most definitely do not. The only time they would of you were coming from a late connection that is part of the same airline or affiliate and they know it's coming in late. Even then, they would only hold it for so long They have schedules to keep and hours to be kept and not exceeded for pilot and staff.
