airline tickets.... question
So DW and i are looking for tickets to Aruba... we have a few months so we can wait and watch prices etc..
so funny thing today.. i was on Kayak searched a round trip from NYC to AUA... came out to $574 per person...
just for fun, i decided to search ONE WAY tickets there and back... from NYC to AUA it was $207 and the one way on the way back was $255... thats only $462... its the exact same airline and time as the round trip tickets.. but over $100 cheaper.
on to the question.... can/should i just book 2 ONE WAY tickets instead of 1 round trip ticket?? has anyone done this?

Re: airline tickets.... question
Are you sure you're not leaving out taxes in the 2nd scenario?
If not, totally book the flights separately!

Re: airline tickets.... question
if you've done the math and it's cheaper, i see nothing wrong with booking it.
also this is going to get moved to travel

Jetblue had a stellar sale yesterday. I think it's still on. $149 each way.

Re: airline tickets.... question
do whatever is cheapest but I will advise that you buy within the next month because I strongly believe that the ticket prices are going to skyrocket!

Re: airline tickets.... question
I do this when the price is right and haven't had a problem. Just be prepared to have your bags searched more than the norm -- one way tickets can look suspicious to TSA.

Re: airline tickets.... question
That's so interesting. I never thought to look that way, and we just booked our flights to Aruba for this summer. I have to tell you that within 5 days, the price of our round-trip tickets went from $520 to $582 to $607, which is when we finally bit the bullet and booked. As of last night, the same flights are $702!!!
So, if you see a good deal, I would go for it!

Prices have already skyrocketed. In January, I purchased RT tix to Orlando for $178. Those same tix, 3 months later, are $390. Outrageous.

There was a story about it - I can't remember where.
Airlines are cutting back the number of flights and the cost of fuel is going up were the main drivers I believe.
Are the flights the same exact ones on the same days? If so, definitely book them. It sounds odd though, I've never heard of that - I know people who used to book RT when they only wanted to go one way to save $$.

Re: airline tickets.... question
I do this for work all the time, but usually I end up booking on two different airlines & sometimes 2 difent airports because I need specfic times. When you are mixing airlines it is usually cheaper to do it seperately. That is strange about it being all on the same airline though.
