Airline Reservation Question
My MIL booked 2 tickets on Delta.com a month ago to Savannah. She thought the earlier she booked, the better.
Well, the prices of the tickets for her actual flight have come DOWN, totaling a savings of over $300 for the two seats.
She just told me that she called the airline, and they want to charge her a $150 CHANGE FEE for each seat (totaling coincidentally $300!) to get the flight at the reduced rate. Obviously it will net no savings so she isn't going forward with it.
I thought that by booking EARLY you are preventing things like this from happening... Does she have any recourse at all?

Re: Airline Reservation Question
The same situation just happened to me with Southwest Air, but I was able to get a credit from them for the difference free of charge. They won't even give you a Delta credit to use at a later date?

Re: Airline Reservation Question
Airline tickets and hotel rooms fluctuate on a daily and sometimes hourly basis. I do not think there is anything she can do besides being po'd.

I know - I thought she would be able to at least get a credit! I was able to do this on American Airlines when the price on the flight of my honeymoon literally dropped in half. This was in 2005 though, so things may be different with the Airlines today.

Re: Airline Reservation Question
it sounds like she bought a non-refundable ticket, which is what 99% of people buy- mostly because they are less expensive- if she had purchased a refunable ticket she probably would have paid twice as much but then she could have gotten the discount.
most of the time, the fares increase closer in- its just now with the recession that airlines are doing anything & everything to fill the planes
