? about going from infant seat to convertible

when did you make the switch (age) and how much did DC weigh? When did you stop taking the infant seat out with DC in it - just taking DC out?

DS is 4 months and close to 16 pounds. just trying to figure out when we will need to purchase the convertible Chat Icon

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

We transitioned Albert after his 4 month well visit.

He was almost 17 lbs and 27 inches long. He also was starting to fuss in the infant carseat and looked squished.

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

At around 5 months we just started leaving the infant seat in the car b/c I still wanted to use the snap n go. We switched at 6 months and he was SO happy. We are going to wait a little longer with DD, she's only 16+ lbs now at 6 months, but we have started to leave the infant carrier in the car.

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

I think around 5 mths I stopped taking infant seat out of car.
I bought convertible car seat at 7 mths b/c DS is on the tall side so he was getting too big (18 lbs & 29 in) for infant car seat. If he wasn't so tall I probably would still have him in it.

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

It depends on the weight that your seat goes up to.

My first son hated the infant seat and was out at 2 months.

My second son outgrew his seat (I think it went up to 23lbs) and I wasn't ready to put him into the conv seat so I borrowed another infant seat that went up to 30lbs (I believe)

I moved him out at 7 months bc I couldn't lift it anymore

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

I'm so glad you asked this, I have been wondering the same thing.

Ds is almost 4 months and 17 lbs, 26 inches, he seems almost too tall for the infant seat now! I asked my Ped and she didn't really have an answer.

I was a nanny for someone and they used it till almost a year, so I was confused Chat Icon but I think they waited a little too long, the baby hated the seat at the end and it was so hard to get her in and out. Also my Ds is on the bigger side.

Now I have to start looking I guess? Wasn't he just born?! Chat Icon

At 3 months old and 17 lbs, I stopped taking the entire seat out of the car, and would just take him out. I wanted to get the most use out of my Infant seat...

I just switched him out now, at almost 9 months, and 24 lbs (seat goes up to 35 lbs), I took him out because he is over the height limit on the seat (32 inches)

either way, it didn't make a difference to me, because I had been taking him in and out of it for so long...

DD#1 was in the regular snugride - she was in it until 11 months - she was 29 inches and 20 lbs at 1 year.

DD#2 was in it until Friday - she is 15.5 months (she is in the Snugride 32). I left her in it b/c it was easier on ME - I only took it out of the car into the house if it was raining (quicker), or if she was asleep. I was able to carry it - but only to and from the house. She is about 32 inches and 22 or 23 lbs at 15.5 months.

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

You don't have to move them from the infant carrier until they outgrow it by either exceeding the weight limit or having 1" or less shell left above their head or their shoulders are above harness in the top slot.

You also can readjust the angle of the seat so it is more upright once they establish good head control (this is also true for any convertible seat)

We didn't change DD's seat until she was 14 months old, but we stopped using it as a carrier well before that time, we just left it in the car the same way you'd leave a convertible seat in the car.

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

DS was 7 mo and like 19 or 20 lbs. Ours went up to 22lbs ithink , but he was getting too heavy to carry around in.

it sucks b/c its so convenient to just snap and go..but my back would eventually snap and go if i didnt switch...

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

We held off until the last possible moment, he was 10 months, 24 lbs and 30 inches Chat Icon DH would struggle to carry that seat but it was just so convenient. I never had to carry him by myself though. It was so much easier, especially on rainy days like today.

I REALLY didn't want to give up the Snap & Go. I still miss it - and being able to move DS so easily when he was asleep.Chat Icon

I think we moved him around 6-7 monthsChat Icon He was well below the weight, but very close to the height limit - I think it went to 29, he was 28 1/2.

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

I had DD in her infant seat until she was 12 months. We stopped taking it out of the car though when she was around 6 months. She was about 20lbs at the time. I did mourn not being able to use the snap and go after that!

Although DS is only 3.5 weeks old, I have a feeling he will be out of the infant seat much sooner as he is a BIG boy!

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

Ds is still in his infant seat...He is still comfy and I really hate to get ride of the car seeat that snaps into the stroller. DS falls asleep in the car ALL the time and i would hate to have to take him out of the car seat and put him in the stroller.

Does anyone know how much weight the carseats usuallyhold. I just looked online and DS's travel system says 50lbs, but I dont know if that is just the stroller, I am positive his car seat doesnt hold 50lbs!!

Re: ? about going from infant seat to convertible

DS is now 7 months old, and I still only use the carrier. But, many factors for this LOL. First, he's tiny... only about 16lbs and still loves being in the seat. Also, we are in the process of getting a 4 door car, since yes, we still only have a 2 door... Sooo... yeah LOL. If we had a 4 door I would prolly be switing him this weekend since we got the convertable seat at my shower, and it's taking up alot of room in his bedroom LOL. I always take him out of the carrier when we go out, to get me used to it... but I don't at home. Just to make my life easier HA

Karin, we have the same seat. DS is 16.6 lbs and 25+ inches long. He still has a lot of room to grow into the seat (height wise) so we'll keep using it until he reaches the height limit (when his head is 1 inch below the top of the seat).

He's getting heavy to carry, but I like the convenience of keeping him in the seat if he falls asleep in it - so I don't have to wake him.

When he outgrows this seat, I'm getting him the Britax Boulevard (or MAYBE the Advocate). Chat Icon
