Re: A friend of a friend's 8 year old son...
How horrible for that family. I cannot imagine what they are going through. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

We just found out today that the child's father is an old HS friend of my husband's. They are not super close friends but they are in the same crowd and they run into each other from time to time. My husband is very upset and so are his other friends. What we heard was that it's not totally confirmed to have been related to the flu shot but it is suspected. Either way, this is a horrible loss. My husband is probably going to the wake to pay his respects.
OMG Kerie.

I'm not sure if this is the same family (which I assume it is)...The mother of the little boy is my childhood neighbor and we've known the family for over 30 years.
He passed away this morning after being taken off of life support. He has a younger brother too.
I can't even imagine what they are going through, and my heart breaks everytime I even think about it.
From what I have been told, the flu shot had nothing to do with him contracting ADEM, it was just a freak coincidence.
I know that this is just what you Heard. but i don't believe in freak coincidence. this is a known side effect of this vaccine. Absolutely aweful. Many many many prayers to that family

Thanks. One of my DH's best friends called us to say that he is coming up from NC for the wake. It looks like a bunch of old friends will be there to show support. The child's mom is also from the same town and is a few years younger than DH's friends. My brother in law knows her. I'll probably be home with my son when they go to the wake. My heart will be with them .

You probably know my DH's family or maybe just my brother in law who worked at Romeo's with her in HS. DH's family is from Kings Park. It is very tragic no matter what the exact cause was.
