went down the slide with my little guy - poor thing got his foot caught between the slide and my leg. went to PM Pediatrics and got an x ray- needs a cast for a month :(

pediatrician said that a study just came out citing the slide thing as the number 1 reason for injuries to babies/toddlers

IT could have happened anywhere... Not your fault.. I always slide down with DS in between my legs or I make sure I have a hold of his feet.. He will be fine in a few weeks!!!Chat Icon

Re: PSA - do NOT go down a slide with a kid on your lap!!!

If you'd want some support - this has happened to me!! My DS#2 had this happen to him at 18 mos. Had no clue....the ER said it is safer to push a toddler down a slide by themselves than to have them go on your lap. Who knew? I will say my son was running on his cast within the week and it didn't stop him from anything. We have video of him playing hockey with hgis dad and older brother in our halls in his little blue cast. Unfortunately, he was on dad's lap when it happened and his guilt still ingers 4 yrs later but honestly - it wasn't bad at all. (My older son broke a collar bone at 2 an dthat was 500 times worse as it was painful!)

He had it for a month. When he got it off, they said to have him take it easy....but nothing doing here - he was running everywhere that day. After the month, I did notice him limp here and there and had him evaluated but they said he was perfect (they said a better walker than a child at 19 mos should be) and that it was a learnt behavior from walking in a cast for a month and sure enough it went away on its own not long after that. Hope it goes fast for you!

This happened to us when DD was 18 months. Chat Icon I always want to tell parents when I see them doing it. But I'm afraid they will think I'm crazy.

Hope your DS feels better soon. Chat Icon

8yo DS and I went down a water slide in one of those "figure 8" two person rafts. I was in front (DS's request), and when we hit the water landing pool, my head snapped back..... and hit DS in the nose! Nothing broke, luckily, but he was bleeding for a while.

Re: PSA - do NOT go down a slide with a kid on your lap!!!

just bumping!

and hey, if your little ones go to any play groups like gymboree or library groups, please pass the message along to the directors- maybe they can make announcements at the beginning of classes

this study just came out about how Toddler's Fracture (Broken Tibia) is the most common injury, but i feel like, if pediatricians knew this for a while, why havent they mentioned it at all?

so please, i know its probably weird that im asking, but just mention it to as many people as you can

and as a side note, little man got his cast today, and he is actually doing great- feels absolutely no pain- even when i clunked his foot on the door- lol agh

Re: PSA - do NOT go down a slide with a kid on your lap!!!

Happened to me at a play place where there was an indoor winding type slide. Ds' finger got kind of twisted and I got a little burn on my arm.

I know it sounds dumb but I actually felt out of control going down. With my weight and his on a slippery slide we were going very fast and got kinda twisted up.

Anyway, hope your DC gets well soon!
