 | Re: UPDATED at bottom, back from doctor - Playing hookie from work today - and what do I say to my doctor tonight? Need some advice... Hey Kathy I'm sorry to hear it's been rough for you lately and I am glad the baby is ok
This post made me happy that I now drive to work each day in NJ vs. the commute that I used to have to NYC - same as yours, only from NJ - 1.5 hrs each way! Although I hate my new job more every day (fun!) I am really thankful that I don't have to do that anymore. I walked to the train from my house (7 blocks), then dealt with Penn Station (nightmare) then walked to 35 & 6th. And then reversed that home again. Plus my train line is the old fashioned diesel kind so you have to CLIMB up into the train!! I am so glad I won't have to do this.

I agree with Rosaria about the intermittent leave - something you can bring up. But when it comes down to it, you need to make yourself and your little girl your #1 priority. Since you are in the legal field are there any types of positions that allow you to work from home?

It doesn't have to be the same position - phrase it as "accomodating a disability". My company had to put someone out earlier due to travel restrictions. Rather than have her use up all of her FMLA before the baby was born, we were able to give her some work to do from home (editing, coursework, etc.)

Good luck! and if I see you on the train, my seat is yours.

the last few weeks when I was pregnant I left early a lot for Dr's appointments and sometimes because I just wanted to go home
well on my disability checks it said average work week hours 31

 | Re: UPDATED at bottom, back from doctor - Playing hookie from work today - and what do I say to my doctor tonight? Need some advice... Thanks girls. I'm going to talk to my boss and my supervisor today and let them know I have to cut back my work week. I'm going to start with 1 day a week off and see how that goes.
At least now I know when my doctor will pull me from work...there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
ETA: a man gave me his seat today - he was spanish (I think)...he wasn't from NY...that's why he gave me a seat...the NYers wouldnt bother getting up.

I have a 15 min car ride to work. I know how it is too work as you get closer to the end(totally s*cks) but when you throw in the commute it's like adding another workday in. Glad your Dr. is willing to work with you. Feel better |

 Thanks Gina!!
You're right, the commute adds about 15 hours a week to my job. Crazy!

 | Re: UPDATED at bottom, back from doctor - Playing hookie from work today - and what do I say to my doctor tonight? Need some advice... What a horrid situation!! I feel for you!
I would ask the Dr if he could "work with you" and write a note for less hours or even for bedrest (even though you don't need bedrest). I'd explain the situation and see if they'd be willing to help you out.
