A friend of a friend's 8 year old son...
is on life support after getting a flu shot on Tuesday. He contracted ADEM from the vaccine. They will be taking him off life support shortly. If you could please spare some prayers I'm sure their family could use as many as you can give.

OMG, no. This is terrrible. ONe of my fears of giving my 10 mth old DD a flu shot...one of the reasons I have not and struggle everyday with the choice. That poor family. That poor child. How can life be so unfair and so cruel?

In reading through the link, though other vaccines can cause ADEM, it doesn't appear that the flu vaccine can cause ADEM, but the flu itself can. If he got the live vaccine, maybe he developed the flu and that is how he got this?

Where in that link does it say that the flu vaccine cannot cause it? Am I missing something? It says a vaccine can cause this, as well as a virus, infection, etc.
This sounds very similar to Guillan Barre syndrome, which can result from a flu shot or a viral infection itself.
