Goose troubles! - UPDATED with PIC!-***Last update***

We had a goose show up at our door at @ 3pm today. It has not left yet! My DH has chased it away at least 5 different times now, and it keeps coming back. It is looking in the window, so we closed the door and since, it has been sort of standing guard at the front door. What gives?Chat Icon Why is it here and how do we get rid of it?

DH thinks that it heard the noise that the set it and forget it makes, and thought it was a mating call of some sortChat Icon

***UPDATE****

I didn't mind the goose, but then it started to get nasty!!! It attacked my mailman, and the neighbors dog! They yelled at me like it was my pet or something Chat Icon . Animal control was called and they cornered it, put it in the van and said they were taking it to my local park, but if it laid a nest (which they suspected but could not find) then it may come back! So far, no goose. If it comes back, I will really be on my own real life "wild goose chase"Chat Icon

Re: Goose troubles!

Omg, I'm sorry, but I just have to laugh at thisChat Icon We used to have two ducks that would come to our house in the morning, tap on the storm door with their beaks, we'd throw them some food, they'd hang out on the lawn all day, tap the door when they were hungry again and leave for the night. They'd come back every springChat Icon Is it a Canadian goose? Maybe he/she lost its mate?Chat Icon I know they mate with the same bird for life I think. Aww. Poor thing.

Re: Goose troubles!

Sounds like it may be sick or hurt. Don't try to catch it on your own. They are very frail. Here are some rescue organizations that may be able to help:

Volunteers for Wildlife, located in Huntington, 631-423-0982
http://www.volunteersforwildlife.org/

Wildlife Rescue of the Hamptons, 631-728-9453
http://www.wildliferescuecenter.org/page/page/1114203.htm

WINORR
(Wildlife in Need of Rescue & Rehabilitation)
N. Massapequa, 516-293-0587

Try them all, even if they are not right near you. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Goose troubles! - UPDATED with PIC!-

Usually if there are either one or two, one of them is sick and the other is keeping it company. (I saw that on the nature channel). But if it is one alone, it may be lost.

Re: Goose troubles! - UPDATED with PIC!-

It's looking for more of it's kind and probably sees it's reflection in your glass, thinking it's another goose.

If you put things on the outside of the glass to block the reflection, that might help. Barring that, if it appears hurt or sickly, I would call the numbers suggested above.

Have you called animal control? It just seems strange that the goose is camped out by your house.. I hope it's ok, and maybe bc it's seeing its reflection in your glass, but you don't want it to be a neausance.

I agree with you, I hate them, our parking lot at work has gaggles of them and they have nipped at people.

OMG I'm sorry but you cracked me up with the wild goose chase Chat Icon Glad he's back in the park; please let us know if he returns. They can get nasty, we have them at work and they hiss at everyone when they walk by.
