Any one ever have troubles with Norton Antivirus

So the other other night I get a prompt from AOL that I have to update my safety and security features....so me like the most computer illiterate person downloads all of the updates. Needless to say when they are done downloading I notice my Norton Antivirus stuff is no longer on my bottom toolbar.....so then I try clicking on the main icon and alls I get is a time capsule and nothing else. To make a long story short I get on with AOL tech support yesterday evening and I end up uninstalling all of the safety features and firewalls and all of that lovely stuff, thinking this would solve my problem....but NO....still doesn't work. I keep getting an "Internal Error" message. So then I get on with tech support with Norton...two times mind you and they tell me it's AOL...I tell them I erased all of their stuff...so they have me do various other things and it still don't work. I'm sitting here wasting hours trying to figure this out!! Has any one ever uninstalled Norton and reinstalled it? How do I go about this? Or has this ever happened to anyone??? Thanks for your help in advance!!
