I would have said something. I know you are working, and you don't want to be rude to a customer, but that is beyond horrible to treat someone else that way. You should have snapped in her face and told her to get off the phone. Chat Icon

If it wasn't my dad's business I don't think I could have kept my mouth shut.

When I used to work there all the time as my job , I would politely say " do you want me to take the next customer while u finish your phone call"

there was no one waiting tho haha damn

That is extremely rude! I can't believe she snapped her fingers at you! Even just pointing at everything she wanted and not acknowledge you is rude but to add a snap!!!! I can't believe people!

Tell your dad to simply hang a sign in the store that says "We have the right to refuse service to anyone on their cell phones"...

A bagel store here in town, has that hanging on their wall, right behind the cash register and I don't blame them one bit.

People can be so rude.Chat Icon

Seriously! I wonder how that woman would take to being snapped at. Chat Icon Chat Icon

This reminds me of something similar I saw in Penn Station. A woman was on the phone trying to buy a ticket but her cell phone was causing feedback on the microphones at the counter. The LIRR employee asked her to step aside or end the call because he couldn't hear her plus feedback is irritating and in this case avoidable.

She flips out saying she doesn't work for him & doesn't have to do what he says. And then goes on to b!tch about him to whoever she was talking to on the phone.

I was thinking get over yourself. Chat Icon

To be fair though - I have sometimes been at store and gotten an important work call that I have to take and also need to check out ASAP. Granted, I have never snapped my fingers at anyone. But if I have a business call I am going to take it - perhaps it is rude but I am not risking my job.

Re: Rude Rude Rude

Oh I'm so sorry!! That was terrible and VERY rude. What happened to all of our decency?! Ugh! There is no excuse for this - If it was an important phone call (I've had them) it is SO easy to MOUTH to the person "I'm SO sorry -- it's WORK" or "I apologize -- I have to take this" and be polite while they are ringing you up by NOT snapping your fingers and acting like they are holding YOU up!

Re: Rude Rude Rude

WOW! That was the height of RUDENESS!!!

I just read a really great book, Agatha Christie's autobiography, and there was one line that really stuck with me.

"You must always be polite to people whose position forbids them to be rude to you!"

I thought it was a such a great line!

What this woman did was incredibly rude because in your position you obviously couln't be rude to her and say anything back without compromising your father's business... I think it is extremely off-putting when people are rude to waiters, deli workers etc. And isn't it a popular dating advice to check out who your date treats people in the service industry-waiters, coat check girl etc... Very smart advice it is!

This is so true. I get so embarrassed if I am with someone that is rude to a waiter/waitress. Chat Icon
