According to this show tonight, 20 mins passed before these guys showed up at John Whites home. You don't think that's enough time to call 911?
ETS: It won't change what happened in this case, but I hope to GOD it doesn't happen again.

But if you call the police and don't go outside your house the bat can't get you.

I was thinking the same thing!
I thought the same thing... Not to mention they said it never came out and the Whites never mentioned any of the kids having a bat in their possession.

But the bat never left the car and the gun did leave the house
it's pretty simple what I would do
take the gun i don't have, and my family and phone
call 911 and go into the basement and hide
wait for the cops to come to handle it
he was no stanger to guns or the police
he called them over 15 times since he bought the house
the neighbors camera shows the son coming home 20 minutes before the kids so up
and they were only there for 3 minutes
this story has a ton of holes in it

Honestly, what would anyone here do??? And after seeing the boys father and the friends behind him...my very first thought is skinheads. And they do exist on LI. We are a fairly advanced part of the world and STILL there is an overabundance of hatred of blacks. We are predominantly white girls here on this board...we have never felt what a black man faced with a group of angry drunk teenagers has felt. Sad situation.

But why didn't he call the cops immediately? That's the one thing that stands out to me.
He's calle the cops in the past for other MUCH lesser offenses, why wouldn't he call this time?

i'm not on any side...
i do believe in protecting your family and your home...
i missed maybe the first 10-15 minutes of this as i only turned it on because of LIF....
I forget how many kids were there but what if you felt outnumbered?
Something obviously made him do it..maybe he played the court system by saying it was an accdient...we will never know ...as i sad, sad all around and sad that race had to play a role in this...

his Mom even made a refernce to black spikey hair - they were driving a mustang
his dad is bald- not a skinhead
my DH has been to his shop- he is a nice guy- he son was killed and they guy got 2 year- no offense - but if that was my Dad and I was dead- my Dad would be the one on his way to jail

Because it's so easy to ask that now...I'm sure in that situation, panic sets in and all sense of rationale goes out the window. Yes, call the cops. But if you just shot a kid, what you WOULD do and what you ACTUALLY do may be on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. You think all hit and run drivers run because they just didn't KNOW? No...they know...and they are scared. Do they deserve a slap on the hands? No, but who are we to judge?

And I didn't get that impression of them at all.
Just cause the father is bald doesn't mean he is a skinhead although I do think he is anger issues  (I would be angry and upset too im just kidding)
I was recently in a store in Farmingdale I saw a kid walk by with a bald head... Jeans and a tshirt with red suspenders doc martins with his jeans rolled up and red shoe laces. NOW that screamed skin head to me. And I was sick to my stomach.

For me personally it isn't about race. It is about a man leaving his house with a loaded gun when instead he should have stayed inside and called 911.
If there were a bunch of black kids threatening my white son I'd be damned before I'd let my husband go outside with a gun.

For me? No. Wrong is wrong and I don't care what color you are. Mr. White brought a gun to a fist fight. He was wrong.
I'd feel the exact same way if the situation were reversed.

nor did that happen that night
had the kids broken in- he would have been with in his right to shot them
but they were on the street

No matter how many threads are created about John White, the outcome of the discussion is going to be the same. Some people think he had no right to do what he did and got off easy and others sympathize with him and his family and think that the kids who came to his home were going to hurt the White family in some way. There is nothing new to add to this discussion.
It's still sad and it will still be sad on page 86174278658768956952 of this potential debate.

Did this happen that night? Did this happen at all to John White to think it would happen again?
From the interview tonight, he sounded paranoid. He also had a loaded shotgun next to his bed.
And because he "thought" something might happen he had the right to shot a kid in the STREET.

I feel horrible for both families.
I agree a call to 911 might have ended this whole thing, but sometimes people are not rational if they are terrified.
Having not been there, or heard all of the evidence at the trial I am hesitant to stand in judgment. I can only offer my sympathy.

No, I'm saying he should have called the cops in the 20 MINUTES BEFORE the kids show up. It's Miller Place, NOTHING goes on there, I know I'm from the area, my husband and his family grew up there. You call the cops and say someone's trying to break into your house and attack you. Trust me they'll be there in a matter of minutes.
John White and his WIFE had 20 minutes to get their heads together and act like RESPONSIBLE adults and DO THE RIGHT THING.

John white had MULITIPLE loaded guns in his house that were unregistered
hardly compares to a bat that they didn't even use
and they used a bad word as their friend was bleeding to death in the back of their car - are you kidding????? that's evidence

I missed it but I know I would have gotten very angry had I seen it. I am personally horrified by teh outcome of this case. And I agree, he and his wife have called 911 for many things, but not this????
