I don't understand...

and oh I know I might get flamed for this... BUT.. I don't understand...

the obsession some people have with Disney.

I mean sure, I like it as much as the next person. But the people who go there every year (or more than once a year) and thats all they ever do for a vacation. Why? Wouldn't they like to see some other places??

I think some of my anti-disneyness comes from the sick obsession my ex-bf's family had with it, but still I don't get it.

Re: I don't understand...

i LOVE disney. We used to go every year when i was a kid. We would only go to one or two parks each visit, so by the time we saw all the parks, there was new stuff and we started over.

I think it really is the happiest place on Earth, and I cant wait to go again (havent been there in 4 years!)

Re: I don't understand...

I'm not sure...

My SIL and her family are HUGE fans. They just got back yesterday from a 2 week vacation in Disney. This was their 4th trip there this year.

I'm not sure I would want to visit ANY place that many times in one year, no less a few years in a row (this is about their 5th year of doing this) but I guess different strokes for different folks!

I like it, but its a completely different experience going with kids as opposed to going without kids.

I liked it much better without Chat Icon

Re: I don't understand...

It's not about the characters, or the movies. It's the effort that they put into EVERYTHING. I have yet to go and not be amazed. They put 110% into every single detail of their parks, hotels and cruiseline. True it can get a bit campy- but our favorite part is watching kids faces light up when they enter parks. It's simply amazing.

My husband and I have absolutely no desire to go to Disney. There are too many wonderful places in the world to see. Spending a few days with thousands of screaming kids is not tops on our list.

I lived in Florida when I was in high school and I performed at Disney for three years. To me, it is nothing special for adults. For kids, I am sure there is an allure. But I don't understand it from an adults perspective. Chat Icon

I agree. I love Disney, but there are so many other places I would rather visit.

I went once as a kid with my parents.
Once as a teenager with friends on a teen tour.
Once as an adult with DH's family (his sister was 12)

I had a great time each time. I can't wait to go with DD. But I figure with her, we'll go once every few years when we visit my mom in Florida. I can't imagine making a special trip to Disney every year- even with DD.

ITA. I went once when I was 19 with a really close friend and her family. We had a great time...but I do not have any desires to go back. Ever, really.

Re: I don't understand...

I went a few years ago and I was so bored. Except for a couple of rides (the haunted house one was pretty cool. Magic Mountain is overrated), I didn't think it was that great. I had more fun at Universal.
I'll probably bring our kids there, but until then i have no desire to go back.

I've been once... went for the first time almost 2 yrs ago. We loved it, but wouldn't go there for every vacation... there are too many other places to see, IMO.

We only did magic kingdom though, so we're hoping to go back this year (since we live in FL now) and go to the other parks.

Re: I don't understand...

My MIL is obsessed with all things Mickey.

Any chance she gets she goes there and tries to get us all to come.

The kicker? She doesn't ride any rides except the Small World.

No one in DH's family rides rides. The first time I went with them they all just sat while I went by myself.

I enjoy it, once every couple years or so.

I can't wait to take DS when he's a little older.

Re: I don't understand...

I enjoy a visit to Disney every so often, I've been there a handful of times (my parents have a house in Florida), but probably won't be back until we have kids. I also couldn't imagine doing it every year, but to each his own. . . I personally don't understand people who ONLY go to the same place every year for vacation, no matter where it is.

I went to Disney for the first time when I was 33 and I love it! For me, it is one place I can go and forget any troubles or worries I may have. I think they do everything so well at Disney too. I wouldn't make it my only vacation each year, but I love it for a couple of days.

My DH is 41 and has never been! I'm going to surprise him when we're in FL in October.Chat Icon

Re: I don't understand...

DH would love to go again since he's been there a few times.

I've never gone and I don't have much desire - I'd rather vacation in other areas that I've never been.

i love disney and DH and i have been there twice already since we've been together. but i'm not obsessed with going there at all...i'd rather try new places that we havent been to yet. we said we will most definitely go back again someday but it will be when we have kids and then it'll be more for them than for us.

Re: I don't understand...

I went alot as a child

the last time I went- I was over it-- I was about 16

my DH has NEVER gone- but I want my kids to experince it- but I am not sure if my DH will ever want to experince it- my Dad already said he would take all his grandchildern there when ever they wanted to go- he lives in FL now- he loves disney- but not to go himself- to see it thru the eyes of a child

Re: I don't understand...

I used to stay with my grandmother every summer and when my parents came to pick me up, we would go to Disney. I loved it there. I later went when I was 16 and had lots of fun because I went with two close friends as well.
I can't wait to bring Jared there one day. I know that he'll love it.

I'm not obsessed. If you saw my parent's house...then you'd know the meaning of obsessed.Chat Icon

But, I'd rather go other places until I have a child. I think the real beauty of Disney is seeing it with a child and through their eyes.

Re: I don't understand...

I also could never understand the obsession some ADULTS have with that place.

Another thing that fascinates me is all the Disney-teamed weddings. I mean, these are all grown women who want to frolic with Mickey Mouse characters on their wedding day, eat cake with Mickey Mouse on top and celebrate the undying love for their new husband with Disney characters in tow!

I am not flaming, really, I just find it absolutely fascinating that there are people out there who dedicate their whole wedding to what was essentially created souly for kids amusement...

Re: I don't understand...

I love Disney but once a year or even once every 2 years is enough. As much as I love it there are other places I want to visit too.
