Re: 11-14 Month Old...Words?
DD just turned 11 mos and in the last few weeks she has become a little parrot. Trying to say lots of things. She consistently says mama, daa-dee, caa-ca (cracker), clock (without the 'l' sound ) cup (just started this week), she tries to say book. If I ask her what the bear says she will growl Grrrr. But she will also do that if I ask what the cat says. Everyday she "tries" to say at least one new thing. DS had a big vocabulary very young. He said his first word at 9.5 months and hasn't stopped talking since. so I hoped she'd stay quiet a little longer, but no! DD will watch my mouth and you can see how hard she is trying to repeat what we are saying.
Eta: forgot ball, uh-oh, pa (what DS calls my dad) and hello.
I know people say boys talk later, that wasn't my experience, I think its just another milestone that happens when it happens. I think he is right on target Ang.

Re: 11-14 Month Old...Words?
My older DD was talking nonstop by 14 months and even asking questions - Where did he go? What is that?
DD #2 was talking but only some words - mama, dada, Oliver (our cat), etc. at her 18 month checkup. I was trying not to compare but having a chatterbox for number one made it hard not to. Then, by the end of that month she exploded and has not stopped.

Re: 11-14 Month Old...Words?
Thanks everyone for the responses.
Still have to look up what Lucas was doing at this age (not that I should compare them but it's making me curious) but this has been helpful.
I'm always the first to say that each child is different and they do things at their own pace but here I am not taking my own advise and looking at other children to measure my own against
I also think I am a little too impatient....love hearing those little voices

That's all Liam was saying at that point. He picked up later on.
P.S. We were at the park yesterday and saw you but, I felt stupid saying something! Even though I had already met you back in the LIF days.

Re: 11-14 Month Old...Words?
Mine are 15.5 months
- started saying words around 13 months - now says dada, doggie, tree, night night, num num (food), bear, nice, nose
- dada, num num (food) - he's only said it like 5 times though. We had him evaluated at 15 months and he didn't qualify for speech.

Re: 11-14 Month Old...Words?
11 months says mama, dada, hi & bye.
She tries to say a lot more but I can't really make it out. She babbles all day.
I think it is common for the second child to say less.
Oh, I forgot her favorite word "Eh" It's universal for "Can I have that?" Put that back!" I want more! & Come over here please?

I know how hard it is not to worry.
I posted that DS did not say any words until just before 2.
I thought when he started talking it would be baby talk and that he didnt KNOW things or understand things.
But he literally went one day from saying nothing, to complete sentences. And he knew alot and understood alot apparently. He is a crazy, hyper boy, but he is VERY smart.
I realized that all the time he was not talking, he was just taking everything in!

Re: 11-14 Month Old...Words?
My DD is 11 months and one week. She says:
Dada Mama Baba (bottle) Cat Dog Hi Hey Balloon
I have also caught her a few times saying two word phrases:
Dada Baba (Dad Bottle) when she woke up (my husband always brings the bottle in)
Hi Dog when crawling to dog
Hey Dog when seeing a neighbor's dog barking.
I am curious whether this is advanced or typical. This is my first child.

Please don't let it get to you like that. Honesly, in my opinion it means didly squat what they can say and how early they say it. DH did not speak a single word till he was 2. He is now a successful physician. I didn't speak more than 2 words till 15m, I am a doctoral candidate in computer science. We both scored in 80-90% in our SAT and GRE in both Math and English.
It is a huge disservice to your child to compare them to others, please don't. All children are genious brilliant wonderful beings, let them be who they are.

Re: 11-14 Month Old...Words?
DS is almost 14 months and says
hi (which means both hi and phone) baba dada (which means daddy and grandpa) mama (not so often though but, he can say it) cookie dog duck (it sounds the same as dog) goose (which is more like goooo) coat up purple uh-oh oops
ETA - A lot of the words listed aren't clear (except hi, baba, mama, dada, uh-oh and purple).
