Re: advice needed - MIL said something this morning that completely freaked me out

I agree with a PP she may have been thinking out loud, esp if you have a steep flight of stairs, I may be nervous going up and down if I wasn't used to them. I am sure she will be extra cautious, and she will feel more confident once she goes up and down a couple times. I would still have her put DD in the crib at least until DD gets used to sleeping in there. I am sure you will call anyway, but Just call a little more than you would through out the day to check in.
This. She's probably just nervous and wants to be extra careful. I think about falling down the stairs when I carry my DS. Being aware of it makes you more careful. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it esp if she has no real issues with her knees.
ETA: I would keep putting her in the crib. Personally, I could never see how a PNP could be comfortable esp compared to a crib.

Re: advice needed - MIL said something this morning that completely freaked me out
i have a similar situation except that my mother cannot physically go up the stairs. DD either sleeps in her PNP or sleeps in my mothers arms. She sleeps in the crib at night and I never had an issue. I actually thought that the different location of the nap during the day helped her realize that when you are in your crib its bedtime sleep and when its in pnp or arms is just naptime.

Re: advice needed - MIL said something this morning that completely freaked me out
Our sitter (my SIL) complained about having a bad back yesterday and mentioned that she is worried about going up and down the stairs right now. She's being even more cautious than ever carrying our DD but I think it's a great idea to move the pnp downstairs and that's what I'm going to do this weekend when we transition DD to her big girl crib.

she was probably just thinking out loud. i have that same fear when i carry Gavin up and down stairs. i think its a natural thought.
as far as confusion with PnP and crib, i think she'll be fine. Gavin naps in a PnP mon-fri, sleeps in his crib every night and takes naps in numerous different places on the weekends. its good to get them used to different areas IMO so you arent so limited.

Re: advice needed - MIL said something this morning that completely freaked me out
I have had this fear of dropping the baby or falling on stairs ever since DD was born and now with DS. I think its a normal fear but I agree, it would freak me the freak out if someone who was caring for the baby vocalized it to me as I walking out the door! But she probably was just making coversation and it came out wrong. Its great that you have the option of the PnP..I would do that from now on.

For peace of mind for you, I would use the PNP for naps & the crib for bedtime. Then on the weekends, do all the naps in the crib. We use our PNP for naptime & never had issues with the crib for bedtime.
Not to freak you out, but I have slipped down the steps at least twice with the boys in my arms.
I know it happens... my sister fell down the stairs carrying my niece when she was 7 months pregnant. Scary though!
I fell down at 31 weeks carrying DS - it is scary.
My MIL voiced the same opinions to me as well in regards to our stairs. Multiple times. Even before DS was born - I didn't really think anything of it. She has wall to wall carpeting on her stairs.
She did carry DS up and down if she needed to (not frequently though) and was extra careful when she did.
