No, I do not as I don't feel I need it. I have a decent job and could pay the bills on my own.
We also have life insurance on both of us that would pay all the bills and have money left over to still live.

I don't have a save yourself account
I can support myself on my own- and I am in charge of all the money
so the odds of me being in that position are slim
my Mom saw way too many of her friends end up there- and always told me to be able to take care of myself
if all else fails- I can resort to my back up plan- good old DAD

unfortunately i don't but i have been making efforts to be more independent especially since i have never really been, if i didn't have my mom i don't know what i would do right now

I have my own savings account from the years I worked before we were married. My DH knows it exists, and does not ask to me to combine it with our joint account.
I'm sure I eventually will, but for right now, I'm hoping to go back to school for a PhD in the future and intend to use this money to compensate for my lack of salary.
But I like knowing its there.

No, but I need to. You just never know.
I am more than capable of working and supporting myself as I have since I graduated college, but have recently made the decision to stay at home with our baby (in November) and since we recently moved out of state I didn't get a new job since I would need to leave there relatively quickly when baby comes.

hmmmm, no. I guess I don't have one but I do have my own 401(k) to tap into. But i make a decent living so I don't see this being a problem. I'll always earn enough to support myself and my son god forbid anything happened.
Same with DH. Although I am in control of everything financially and I doubt he even knows where any of our money is. I guess that can be a good and a bad thing.

Ditto. If I was working a P/T job making a few bucks an hour for fun money, then I would make sure I did. But otherwise, no.
I also think the minute she got scared b/c he was hiding the mail should have been the minute she went out and looked for something. That's not a situation that just goes away.

I have mad money that I keep in my dresser - and 2 credit cards with about 20K of open credit (in my name only). I also have a great job, access to all of our accounts, and a copy HIS life insurance policy. I also have the keys to the saftey deposit box.

i do, but not because i'm worried about our relationship.
i work a part time job and use that as "my" money. it goes into the account i had before we got married. DH knows about it and encourages it because he knows how hard i work for that money and i use it if i want to buy something we can't afford right now. there's not much in it, but now that i have paid my car off using that money, anything extra is being saved for me.
also, i make more than DH and am in charge of all the bills and finances. so really, he'd be the one who would be s crewed if something happened to us.

i take care of all of our finances and all the major accounts are in my name alone (out of laziness pretty much.) Right now I am more concerned in building savings for our home/retirement/safety net though if we reach those goals I could see a fund for that...

That's why I advocate that things are in a separate account.
We have one joint account and we each have separate ones.
I make sure to keep some emergency money away.
And I control all the finances in the house, so I feel pretty good.
My DH should be scared, I guess.

In the case you described, it's a moot point for us. We have a joint account with more than enough money to pay all the bills for at least six months (if not one year). I don't need a seperate account to use that money in case, God FORBID, I lose my husband.
We have no children, so I would only be supporting myself. Which I would be capable of doing.
Now if we're talking an account for the 'my husband cheated on me', 'my husband is abusive' or 'my husband and I are divorcing' account -- no. I do not have one. Nor will I open one. In 10 years, I've never had an inkling that I would ever need one. If I did, I would take action.

I don't have one. I manage all the funds in our house so it is not a concern to me. I am well aware of what we have, and this never crosses my mind. In the past in other relationships, it would have been and I would have kept a seperate account for myself. But not in this case in my marriage. But I do think it's a great idea for those who have concerns. And no, I would not tell my DH if I did have one.
In addition, I also have a career/education that makes it easy to financially support myself and my future child/ren.

before we got married, we decided to open joint accounts while we each still kept our seperate accounts that we had before we were married.
so we each have part of our paychecks deposited into a joint account to pay house bills, dinners out, etc... and then the other part of our paychecks goes into our own accounts. we are very open about it and we each know how much is in each others seperate accounts, and it just makes it nice to know that i have my own savings if i ever need it.
my mom's parents got divorced after over 20 years of marriage, and my grandmom always told me to make sure i can take care of myself  you just never know whats gonna happen.

I agree- if I ever stopped working- I would still contribute to my IRA and stash a little money aside
but I guess this is much harder if you don't handle the money like I do
I guess I see the benefit of being a control freak

I do too. Although it's not a "save yourself account."
My husband and i both have 1 separate account each where we put a certain amount of money away each month and neither of us can say anything about how we use that money.
My husband calls it his "play money" account and for me... its just my extra savings account.
I will say that with my parents divorce, i learned early on not to put all your eggs in one basket and to be independent even in your marriage.
