how much to give Neighbor for snow plowing

A guy who lives around the corner from me snow plowed the bottom of my driveway for me. Took him maybe 10 minutes. He advertises all over town for plowing and snow blowing and I think it is a main source of income for him. When I asked him how much I owed him he said "don't worry about it" but I'd like to give him something. I asked him to do the plowing.

Would you give $ or a gift cert for a local restaurant? how much?

Re: how much to give Neighbor for snow plowing

Since he is a neighbor and said don't worry about it, I'd probably just give a restaurant gc as a gesture of appreciation rather than cash.
The thing is, I'm not sure how much.
I feel like with restaurant gc's anything less than $50 looks cheap, but what he did for you doesn't warrant $50 since it was just the end of the driveway and it took him 10 min kwim?

I'm kind of in the same position. I don't want to look cheap by giving less than $50, but anything less for a restaurant just makes me feel cheap. My neighbor has a family so I was thinking maybe a Target gift card. They can always find something in Target that they would need but IDK. I have no idea. Maybe someone here has a better idea.

Re: how much to give Neighbor for snow plowing

I plow an area for my neighbor once in a while. When you have a plow, and it's just a small area, it's really no work involved. I would personally not want to get any GC or any gift for doing that. If I do something simple like that for no reward, then I'm doing a good deed, and helping my Karma. As soon as money is exchanged, it ruins my plans of helping someone for no reward, and now it's a chore.

If he said "don't worry about it", I honestly wouldn't go against his request.

I agree with this.

If I was him and someone ended up spending that kind of money to thank me for something required very little effort I would feel bad.

Just pay it forward.

Except she asked him to do it. So I would buy him something small. As someone suggested, a GC for coffee sounds nice.

I sent a big tin of popcorn to my neighbor who snow blows for us. They have young girls who I know would enjoy the popcorn. We are friendly with them though so I feel like just the gesture is enough reciprocation.

Our neighbor always uses his snowblower on our property and rather than get him something after each snow fall, at the end of the season we buy him a $50 or $75 giftcard (depending on how the snow was that season) to a local restaurant. He always tells us that it isn't necessary, it only takes him 15 extra minutes to do us, yada yada yada but I know he really appreciates it. What he does helps us out sooooo much and saves us so much time from shoveling - especially when DH is away and traveling for business and its just me and DD (2.5) at home.

how much to give Neighbor for snow plowing

when i lived in NJ and my neighbor would clean up our snow, i'd bring him a bottle of booze. he liked grey goose.
he had a snowblower and a very short drive way, i have a feeling i did him the bigger favor by having a larger area to clean. he loved being outside with that thing. lol
