if you are unsure, you could always go for the dot.

This. The difference between the two is the quality of the speaker. If you are going to use it in a space that isn't too large, the dot is perfect.
We have a large open downstairs so we have the echo downstairs but my son has a dot in his bedroom.
Keep checking deals. They are discounted other times too but not as much.

my husband buys all this stuff and i normally hate that he wastes so much money on technology but i actually really like the echo. my daughter loves listening to nursery rhymes on it

We also have the tap for portable music (DH got it for my bday even though I asked for dot Bc he assumed it was better). We use dot much more.
