Can you undo CIO success in 1 day?
So last weekend we did CIO to stop rhe nurse to sleep association. Surprisinly we didn't have to do it at bedtime but at 11 pm she cried for about an hour before going back to sleep and I only fed her once after midnight. Next night she fussed at 11pm for about 15 min and I fed her once after midnight. Each night I've only fed her once or twice between midnight and awake time. 2 nights ago, she woke up at 11:30 and I wasn't thinking so I fed her and then had to feed at least 2 more times. Last night sje woke at 10 and cried for 40 min to only wake again at 12 crying. We've been off a "schedule" with solids and naps the last couole days. Could I have messed everything up or maybe she's not feeling well? With CIO, is it usually just a couple days of crying and then smooth sailing all night every night? I just want to make sire I'm doing the right thing to get her more sleep. Sorry this post is so long but I'm lost when it comes to CIO

Im a little confused. Once you put the baby to sleep are you still feeding? When I did CIO the baby wasnt eating at night anymore. You need to wean the feedings down first i think. I eliminated the nigjt feeds by 3 months.

When you feed in the motn, are you putting her back in the crib awake or feeding/rocking back to sleep?

Can you undo CIO success in 1 day?
When I did CIO at 6 months, I cut out ALL nursing sessions in the middle of the night. I actually accidentally did CIO then because I was SO sick and couldn't get out of bed. I heard him cry like 1-2 times, but luckily they were both short lived. It took 1 night.
He then regressed at 8 months. I tried CIO, but it didn't work. He slept poorly for about a month and I went back to nursing him in the middle of the night. We then did CIO again at 9 months and it worked in one night and he slept well for about 2 months. He then slept poorly for a months. This cycle continued until he was 22 months. I am pretty sure his crumby sleep from 15-22 months was all teething related.

Re: Can you undo CIO success in 1 day?
So I did a "Gentle" CIO but for ALL wake ups, not just putting my son down at night(and as it is, he actually never cries when we put him down, he's always been good self-soothing at bedtime). We did do CIO for middle of the night wakeups at 6 months old though so we don't feed through the night (unless I know he didn't eat enough during the day or he's sick). But that's off the point. I spoke to a sleep consultant because I was worried that every time he got sick, we would have to start over. She told me that you never really start from scratch again, it gets easier to "retrain" because they remember what to do, so you end up CIOing for less time each time you need to restart it. I hope that makes sense. It's actually worked that way for us. The first time we ever did CIO took us 2 nights, a lot of crying. Then we had to retrain after being on vacation and it only took one night, a few cries. Recently we did it again after he was sick and it was just 1 night and he cried for a few minutes.

Then that's your problem. You're feeding her back to sleep in the MOTN, rather than letting her self soothe and fall asleep on her own. Depending on how old your baby is, I'd probably do CIO when you're ready to drop night feedings. Otherwise it's confusing for the baby.

Can you undo CIO success in 1 day?
My older one was a breeze, sttn from night one of cio although she was 16 months by the time I did it.
My little one was very different. No matter how she went to sleep, she usually woke up after an hour. Didn't matter if she went down awake, cio, or was put in the crib sleeping. It was really frustrating. Usually I could just go in and give her a cuddle, put her right back down and she'd go to sleep. However, she was usually up and nursing around midnight. It was a very long, frustrating road but around 16 months I finally got her night weaned completely. No easy solution to offer, just that I feel your pain. Also wanted to add that I wouldn't worry about her being asleep after night feedings when you put her down. That's normal. If she can get back to sleep before midnight without nursing hopefully soon you can get her to do that later in the night too.

That's actually not normal. It's called a sleeping association. The point of CIO is to break all sleeping associations - or crutches used to help baby fall asleep not on their own.
To the OP, there's a great website and FB group called Precious Little Sleep that can help you with this. Check it out.

That site (which is fantastic) is exactly where I read that it doesn't matter for motn wake ups, only for bedtime.

Nothing can be ruined forever in one day. Pick your plan, and stick to it, and don't second guess yourself. Every room breaks patterns when kids have colds or life just interrupts... you'll figure this out!
