Re: Do you like/serve green bean casserole for Thanksgiving?
My mil always makes it for thanksgiving/Christmas and it is tasty so the last few years I've made it too because it's simple to make. We like it but if we didn't have it we wouldn't miss it.

Garlic and oil is how we always make it lol. It's yummy but I want something different though. More American traditional I guess lol. Nell posted a corn casserole that sounds good. I think I'm going to try that instead. People seem to love it.

as a someone who grew up Kosher this was never allowed, mixing dairy with meat, but I was always fascinated by it lol.
I have never made it but it looks good
I assume you're talking about the one with cream soup and fired onions on top
This might be why my mom learned to make it with golden mushroom soup, no dairy!
really!!! now I have to check that out. Thanks

Woof! No condensed cream of anything soup for us, either. MIL makes it and I hate it. I like fried onions so I enjoyed the top

Do you like/serve green bean casserole for Thanksgiving?
My FIL's wife made this one year for Thanksgiving. I had never had it. It's not for me.

Re: Do you like/serve green bean casserole for Thanksgiving?
My FIL makes it. I personally don't like my stringbeans all dressed up and fancy. Just give me some crisp fresh steamed stringbeans. (But that's how I feel about almost any vegetable dish.. unless it's sautéed in garlic and oil)

Also if you want a real crowd pleaser- google Paula Deen's Corn Casserole I eat it for breakfast the next morning that is how good it is. And it's super easy to make.
My MIL made this on a whim last year, it was to die for!
We love this too!
Just looked it up. I love corn so I think I'll make it this year.

Re: Do you like/serve green bean casserole for Thanksgiving?
Just FYI, there's a recipe in Southern Living (Nov issue) for green beans in the slow cooker that looks pretty good.

Re: Do you like/serve green bean casserole for Thanksgiving?
I hated green bean casserole growing up but now I love it. I make that and broccoli casserole every Thanksgiving. My aunt has been making that corn casserole for at least 40 years. I could eat the whole thing myself lol. I think our whole Thanksgiving dinner is made up of casseroles and turkey lmao.

Not really... My mom taught me. We use about 4 cans of green beans, 2-3 cans of the Campbell's condensed golden mushroom soup, 2-3 small cans of sliced water chestnuts, and the French's fried onions. Heat the beans, water chestnuts and soup in a pot. Add as many fried onions as you like to the mix, then put the mixture into a casserole dish and cover with more onions. Bake at 350 for maybe 10-15 minutes until top is browned.

Re: Do you like/serve green bean casserole for Thanksgiving?
My family is off the boat so we've never had this and I've never even seen it before. But I see it so much in movies, commercials, even see recipes for it in the supermarket.. that I thought it might be a holiday staple in American homes (kind of like the sweet potatoes with mini marshmallow topping - another thing my family would never do- my ILs do this though so I have seen it done). It's interesting that the responses are so split.. so many people are posting they don't make it or like it. I guess it's not as popular as pop culture makes it to be, at least not in this area.

I want to add if you make it, definitely use frozen green beans! The canned make it mushy and gross.
NO!!! Fresh beans. Always fresh.
Love green bean casserole.

I don't like onions or mushrooms, so I don't eat it. My grandmother makes it every year though.
