Holiday gifts

By Christmas I will be a huge pregnant walrus. There's a possibility I could go early and have my twins around the holidays so I'm trying to plan ahead. This year I'm cutting down signficantly. Normally I buy nice gifts- like coach bags for my mom MIL and SIL, order stuff from Steiner sports etc. do you think it would be ok just to order wine/ chocolate gift baskets and do couples gifts? Like a basket for my parents, basket for in laws, basket for SIL/BIL and then just get my niece a little something and my brother? I don't want to spend a ton with me going on maternity leave around the holidays and I just can't even be bothered shopping to be honest. I feel bad not buying big gifts. Thoughts?!

Absolutely!

I don't see anything wrong with those gifts even if you weren't pregnant and not wanting to shop.

Re: Holiday gifts

we are doing a secret santa this year with my husbands fam even though they are jewish lol

every year we spend an hour opening gifts. we are adults, plus we all have gift registries. its so silly. i told dh id rather spend time drinking and playing cards of humanity. so thats what we are doing.

maybe suggest that? buying for one person is WAYYYYY less stressfull.

Re: Holiday gifts

Yes - pregnant or not I significantly cut down on gift buying/giving for ADULTS once we all started having kids.
I buy for my nieces/nephews now and that's it.

I don't need anyone to buy me anything. If I want something I go buy it.

It's just easier that way.

100% agree. We cut off adults when kids arrived. We were just exchanging gift cards so what's the point.

I'd probably send them a note and let them know things are really focused on the baby and not to worry about gifts for you. I bet they would see this as a welcome change! And it will avoid anyone feeling bad if they spend a lot and you don't.

Absolutely this. I think of Christmas gifting as mainly for the kids. I never need anything that badly that I have to wait until Christmas to have it. I just buy it for myself throughout the year. That's why come Christmas time there's never anything I really want.

Baskets are totally fine but, don't feel bad telling them you don't want to exchange at all if you want to eliminate the gifting completely. Anything goes.

I think the baskets are perfect...don't feel bad at all! You were so generous all those years buying expensive gifts & I'm sure they appreciated it...but it's not necessary & I'm sure they'll appreciate this just as much!

Re: Holiday gifts

We stopped buying for everyone years ago, even before the kids. It gets ridiculous and out of hand IMO. Do gifts really have to happen if you are going to just have babies? I don't see why they have to happen. They are just symbols, I don't think much of gift giving just because it's a holiday. I may sound strange to say I think gift giving for holidays is mostly for the kids.
