Injury
Last night I got up with one of my feet asleep and tripped over a pair of shoes laying on ground. The pain in the outside of my knee, hamstring, calf, down to my foot is on and off pretty intense. I heard a pop. I can't put my full weight on it, and if I sit for a while I can't walk at all at first. It also feels likes its going to buckle. I took off work today and I've been laying on couch with it elevated and iced since DS went to school. Is this the type of thing I can go to a local walk in medical center for, or I am going to have to head to ER? TIA

Re: Injury
Go to an orthopedist. You'll probably need an mri to rule out a tear

I would try stat health. They can do x rays, ultrasounds, etc and have a radiologist on hand. Hopefully they can give you an idea of the issue quickly and send you to the appropriate specialist if need be.

Re: Injury
I'd head to the ER. Don't mess around with your knees.
If you need a good knee ortho, Giles Scuderi in Garden City. 516-801-8410 He did my knee replacements last October.

Re: Injury
I would probably do an urgent care place because they can do xray unless you dr happens to do them. I would make the ER my last resort because I would not want to wait around in the waiting room

Re: Injury
Thank you everyone! I hate the ER, I have bad memories there, and my copay is insane. I went to an urgent care. The imaging machines were down. He said torn acl, some sprain, and a Bakers cyst. If it is still painful in a week or two i need a mri.

They should have sent you elsewhere without charging you!

Go to an orthopedist and get an MRI.
There's a walk in place in massapequa. Total Orthopedics

Re: Injury
Sprain is one thing, but a torn ACL is a pretty serious injury, not one to be taken lightly.
Go to an ortho, don't wait it out and "see" if it gets better. You can wind up doing some serious damage to your knee. I speak from experience because I was young and stupid once. Now, I am the proud owner of two titanium and plastic knees, with long scars down the front of each.

This is what my family is saying too. My sister tore her ACL playing rugby and had surgery but she was only 19. I am going to reassess Monday.
Thank you!

I agree with pp
I tore my acl at 18 playing baseketball
I waited a bit for surgery. My knees have never ever been the same

Re: Injury
I wouldn't wait until Monday. Getting prior auth for an MRI can take 48 hours. Getting auths latey have been ridiculously challeneging, even for a ninja like mysef. If I were you, I'd see an ortho tomorrow. Any ortho. You can always follow up with your first choice after the mri.
