Anyone have a dog with a neck/disk injury? Updated- please send good vibes!
Our dog Oliver, a beagle, somehow must have injured his neck. We took him to the vet because he was clearly in pain. The vet gave us steroids and muscle relaxers to use for a few days. We used up the relaxers and tapered down the steroid dosage. He began having pain again, so DH took him to the emergency vet last night, for pain meds.
We took him back to the regular vet, who recommended a neuro consult, which is tomorrow. He made need surgery.
DH keeps saying that he wonders if he may have to be put down- he clearly has been in a lot of pain- and it's getting me really upset. 
Update: We took him to a neurologist who is going to do an MRI today. Surgery is a real possibility and I am freaked out about this. I also read some not-so-good things about this dr and this practice which is also making me worried. But it seems that veterinary neurologists are hard to find (I don't live on LI) so our choices are limited. I just hope it can be fixed non-surgically.

We just got a call- MRI showed no slipped disk so he will not need surgery! 
But they still don't know what's wrong- he has such pain. They are doing a spinal tap, thinking an infection may be the cause. I hope they figure it out- I am so glad he does not need surgery but I also hate the possibility that he'll have to deal with pain indefinitely.
