Dd has had a low fever for 1 week
We took her to the Dr a few days ago and were told it's just a cold, no need for antibiotics. But now it's been a week and she still has a low fever (99/100). Should we take her back, or is that normal for a cold with a young child? She's 3.

99 Isn't even considered a fever and 100 is barely. My son can be that hot at the end of a day.
I would not run back to the dr.

Agreed. 99 is not a fever in a child. And yes, when they have a cold, they can run a low fever anyway. I always do when I have a cold. It's just the body fighting the virus.

Dd has had a low fever for 1 week
When this happened to my son when he was two, it wound up being roseola. We didn't know it was roseola until two days after the fever broke and the rash showed up.

Persistent low grade fever should absolutely be checked. Does she have any other symptoms? Is she lethargic? Complaining of any pain? I would give the dr a call at the very least.

Thanks, all. I know it's not a high fever, but this is very unusual for her. Usually she gets better after a couple days. Her Dr is away on vacation til the11th, so we took her to a walk in emergency clinic, and id rather not bring her back there unless we really have to. It's frustrating not being able to just call our regular ped, especially since I also have a 2 month old, and I'm worried he will get sick too.

Re: Dd has had a low fever for 1 week
Well technically my ped do not consider anything under 100.4 to be a fever. So 99 isn't really something to worry about, some kids run that normally with activity. But I would be more concerned as to her behavior and how she feels. If she is very run down or resting a lot more than normal I would considering checking for an infection, but if she is just running 99-100 even I would not be concerned if she is feeling and acting ok.

You know you're kid best and if you feel like something more is going on then get her checked out again. Is she very congested? After this long it could be a sinus infection. Dd1 ran a low temp like that and had strep. At the same time, 99-99.4 is very normal for her in the morning so I've learned not to worry unless she's feeling badly. I would go with you're gut.

Re: Dd has had a low fever for 1 week
It's all how they are tolerating a fever, not the fever itself. Some viruses can have a fever linger for a while. If she is eating, drinking, sleeping and acting normal then don't worry. And like others have said, its technically not a fever so I wouldn't be overly concerned.
