Dutch Wonderland Questions

What is an appropriate age for Dutch Wonderland? My DS would be just over 2 if we go (2 years and 4 months).

Also - how far in advance do you need to book? How long did you stay?

I am always a procrastinator and I'd like to book everything sooner rather than later. Is March/April a reasonable time to book or should I do it earlier?

TIA!

Re: Dutch Wonderland Questions

We took DD for the first time the summer she turned 2.
It was great. I will say that at that age, she was a bit of a chicken and really didn't want to go on many rides. But that is an individual child thing.
If your child likes kiddie rides, they will love it at 2.

Also, the water area is great for that age. She loved that

We go in July every year and I book the hotel in April or so- I'd rather book early to get the room I want. The summer gets very busy (we stay at Eden)

We stay 2 nights

Re: Dutch Wonderland Questions

We took DS the summer he turned 2 and it was a perfect age for it! I would say anywhere from 2 - 4 is great.

We stayed for 2 nights, but we did DW & Hershey in one trip.

Re: Dutch Wonderland Questions

We went with DS when he was 25 months and he LOVED. It helped that his big sister was there (she was almost 5 at the time) and went on some rides with him that we couldn't go on. I have seen little ones freak out there on some of the kiddie rides, DD might have been that way if we took her there at 2. It all depends on the kid, I guess!

This reminds me of our first trip there where DD started screaming on the carousel- before it even started!

I had to ask them to let us off.

We tried again later.

Re: Dutch Wonderland Questions

It's the perfect age for DW.

The only thing I will add to that is that there are several rides that adults can't go on at all because we literally wouldn't fit. So DC will have the best time if she is willing to go on by herself. There are still enough rides that can accommodate adults that if not, it's not a big deal.

The spring is plenty of time to book for the summer.

DS will be 6 in the spring and I am sad that I think he'll have outgrown DW by next summer (he is a daredevil with rides and has been to Disney, Hershey, etc. so I think he'd be bored.) I love it there!

Dutch Wonderland Questions

Thanks everyone. This will probably be our family vacation this summer! My sister might come with her 1 and 3 year old.

Re: Dutch Wonderland Questions

We went for the first time this past summer, even the adults had fun!
My kids were 3 and just over a year. My 3 year old was fearless, loved all the rides. She went on a bunch with her older cousins. My 1 year old loved them also, there were only a handful he could go on by himself, but he did like them all.
My kids did not really enjoy the splash park area - for whatever reason my daughter doesn't like those types of things.

We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites directly across the street from DW. We walked over and did not have to pay for parking. We stayed one night.

We are looking to make it an annual trip with my family.

Re: Dutch Wonderland Questions

We just went in the beginning of September, DS just turned 3, he enjoyed it. It was 90 degrees then so he had a lot of fun in the water area too. We stayed at the Eden Resort and I recommend it- they have a great pool area with a whole kiddie section. They also had an indoor pool but we didn't go in it. We did 2 days there, so 1 day we did DW and the other day we did the Strasburg Railroad and the Turkey Hill Factory.
