Whooping cough vaccine for adults (newborn on the way)
Were you told to get the vaccine for yourself? What about family members that were going to be handling the baby?
Thanks!

Whooping cough vaccine for adults (newborn on the way)
I wasn't told but I knew it was important to get the vax during the 3rd trimester so I asked my dr and he said absolutely. With my first, I had gotten the tdap the month before conceiving so I didn't get it while pregnant with her. I did have DH and immediate family members get it. I had whooping cough 3x as an adult and take it very seriously. I did get it in the 3rd trimester when pregnant with my second.

With dd1 the cdc recommendation was to get it in the hospital after she was born. This was 2013. With dd2 in 2015 the cdc recommendation was to get it while pregnant in third trimester so baby gets antibodies.
I had grandparents get the vaccine and then again for the booster.

Same- got it in the hospital after DD1 was born in 2012, and during third tri in 2014, but DH and everyone else only got it in 2012....my dr had said they were covered for 10 years? At any rate, yes it's a good idea to ask grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc to consider getting it. You and your DH are a must, IMO.

The current recommendation is to get it in your third trimester. Both DH and I got it at that point.

Make sure both parents and any grandparents, caretakers of the baby get the vaccine!! This one I'm super pushy about since my son contracted whooping cough at 3.5wks old. My Ped was able to give everyone the vaccine

Yes, they told me in the hospital. They gave it to me before I left with DS1. My parents and DH have all gotten it too.

Whooping cough vaccine for adults (newborn on the way)
In 2012 I got it in the hospital after giving birth. This pregnancy I just got it last week at 31 weeks. My kids ped said the regulations changed and that I should get it while pregnant but if family got it when DS was born, which they did, then they don't need it again.

Dh and I got it when I was around 8 months pregnant. We didn't ask anyone else to get it because they weren't spending a lot of time with DS.
