Dentist & tooth extraction
Anyone have any experience with this?--My daughter had her 6m check up yesterday and dentist said top tooth is loose (she will be 5 in a few months) after looking at the xray he thinks she hit it and that is why its loose and the root looks gray above it. He said they are aggressive with the top front teeth and not wanting it to possibly damage the adult tooth above it and wants to extract it. The idea if him pulling her tooth freaks me out and I dont want to do it but I also do not want it to possibly damage the adult tooth and regret it. A friend of mines child fell on his front teeth and they are pretty dark gray and cracked at this point and their dentist did not recommend removal and with my daughter you wouldnt even know anything happened! I hate to not follow the recommendations but the thought of her having to go through that and then walk around with a missing tooth just makes me sad!

Re: Dentist & tooth extraction
Maybe go for a second opinion, but it seems like tooth extractions around that age are common enough. I'd probably go for it

Second opinion. Especially on a tooth that is going to fall out soon anyway. I wouldn't be rushing into something like that. Get a second opinion

Agreed. If it was me, I would leave it alone.

Dentist & tooth extraction
Thanks, my gut said at the very least to get a second opinion as well. If I decide not to go through with it, I will feel weird staying at the practice though and maybe need to switch!

Dentist & tooth extraction
I would give it some time to fall out on its own. If it dosent fall out on its own by the time she has her next check up I would reevaluate.

Re: Dentist & tooth extraction
Get a second opinion please. I personally would not pull that tooth as it doesn't sound like such a bad accident.
My DS had a very bad accident when he was 3years old where he smashed his mouth onto the edge of a table. His gums were bruised, his tooth became bruised & became a little loose. Our dentist took an xray, said that the tooth wasn't dead & it didn't need to come out. DS was able to live, eat with it for 2 years & at his checkup around the 2 year anniversary time, we decided to pull it because DS had begun wiggling it a lot making it very loose. I didn't want it to fall out in his mouth while he was sleeping or anything so we pulled it. Our dentist was great- it was a completely traumatic-free experience for him. Best part is that our dentist said that the adult tooth will be fine. Missing a tooth at 3 would have been hard for him but at 5 or 6 not so much so I am really glad we were able to keep it for a couple of years.
