WWYD about RSVP's

I have the all too typical situation where a bunch of people have not RSVP'd.

9 out of 18 kids in my son's K class have not RSVP'd, the date was Sunday, the party is next Saturday.

I want to send an email to the parents (I'll BCC them) asking them to please respond. I don't care if it's a "no" bc he already has 17 kids attending but I don't want any surprises. I have to plan for the number of kids in terms of food and cake and maybe favors. The deadline to give the party place a final headcount is Thursday.

DH says I should let it go bc they are most likely not attending but I say that sometimes people fully plan to attend and just don't let you know. WWYD - would you email the parents of those who haven't RSVPd?

Definitely shoot an email. You have to at this point. So annoying! People who don't RSVP should be blacklisted from parties!!!!! JK. But it is very, very annoying.

Re: WWYD about RSVP's

Doesn't hurt to email.

Would it be so wrong if you just cut them from the guest list if they didn't bother to RSVP and if they happen to show up you can sort of "teach them a lesson" and embarrass them in the same process by being all "omg we didn't plan on you coming because we didn't hear back from you, we don't have enough food or cake or favors or chairs...." LOL People s.uck.

OMG I would not do that.

It's not the child's fault their parent could not get with it. I can tell you at 5 years old they understand what is being said - if my son heard that he would be embarrassed.

I would email.

I don't know if MC09 is kidding, but I def wouldn't do that. It seems spiteful and childish.
I have forgotten to RSVP before because I had the email or text started and then got distracted and TOTALLY didn't send it... BUT completely thought I did. I was so happy when my friends texted me to say hey just wanna make sure you guys are coming. And I profusely apologized because I DO know from personal experience how rude it is but it was completely unintentional. And it wasn't meant rude or to be nasty.

Were all moms with busy schedules and sometimes you have every intention of doing something but get distracted.

I'm going through the same thing right now. 7 kids from school have not yet rsvp'd to my dc party for this weekend. Same as you we have enough kids going. DH says not to email but a part of me wants to put them on the spot lol cause I'm annoyed. I'm probably just going to do nothing and just make a couple of extra favors.

I'm pretty sure she was kidding :ha:

I wouldn't do that, but I definitely wouldn't re-invite people that just showed up without RSVPing. Rude.

I would email. I went through this with my DC party and I emailed them. It turned out that some of them thought they had RSVP'd and some of them had forgotten.

OP Certainly send an email, people may have forgotten or not received the original invite.

Re: WWYD about RSVP's

I just had dds party his past Saturday at 3 pm. I had five families RSVP the day of the party all he way up to 12:20 in the afternoon. Since the class directory has yet to come out, I had to hand out invites. I know how hard it is with paper invites. Thankfully, the party place was supremely accommodating and I got extra goody bag favors.

Since you have enough kids, I wouldn't probably send anything and just assume they wouldn't show. I've only had a handful of kid parties, but I've never had anyone show and not RSVP (if anything, just a last minute cancellation). But, it's no big deal to email. I usually wait until the last minute to RSVP and have once had a mom contact me on the RSVP-by date. I usually feel pretty bad, but if reached out to I'd definitely RSVP asap. But, I'd expect the RSVPs to be mostly no's at that point.

Thanks everyone. I just sent the email out. Kept it really simple. Didn't want anyone to feel obligated.

Re: WWYD about RSVP's

2 more people RSVP'd within 2 hours of the email. Both yes. The rest I have not heard from so I'm calling in my final number with what I have later today.

ETA: Had the party and we had 23 kids there! Yes RSVP's came in until the day before. 3 people didn't RSVP at all, even after the email. Crazy that people don't have the courtesy to RSVP, something so simple.

You would be surprised how many people think not rsvping is a no. Chat Icon

It is also not a thing in many cultures and not people Intentionally being rude. I remember getting so annoyed at my wedding and our dds first bday party at my parents guests. Hardly anyone rsvped. The day of our dd party we had two empty tables of people who said they were coming (verbally) and didn't as well as just in case for people who never said anything. Grrr

I have 5 people for my son's party next weekend that still haven't RSVPd, Im counting them as a no, which is fine, less $ for me. But to say you're coming and not show is so annoying because people have already paid for you in terms of food and favors, etc.
And for the record, no RSVP doesn't equal NO, it equals RUDE!
