Grandma spinoff question

My 3 yr old calls my mil ' Mama ' and me mommy we live in a 2 family. We refer to her as grandma but he still calls her mama- I hate it. It started when he couldn't pronounce grandma but I know he can now. I guess the only way to change it is for her to stop responding to it but I don't think she will and he hates change. He gets mad when I correct him.

Maybe when he is older he'll change it?

I still call my grandfather "paa" because I couldn't say grandpa when I was young.. and not only did it stick bc thats how he began referring to himself, but I was the oldest grandchild, so 7 more kids following me also refer to him as Paa as well.

I would change it now if it upsets you.

I know you said he gets mad when you correct him, but do you think he would get upset if your MIL corrected him? Like, when he calls her "Mama" she could say, 'No, I'm Grandma, that's Mama' (and point to you or something).

DS was calling both grandma's mama at one point and I was Mommy. Once day he just suddenly started saying grandma. We always called them Grandma, I was not a fan of mama.

hopefully in time he will make the switch on his own if you just keep using "grandma"

I used to call my grandma "Vava" when I was little due to pronunciation issues. lol. I moved onto Grandma once I was able to pronounce it correctly, thank goodness, because I would have been one dorky teenager being all "This is my Grandpa and Vava" lmao. At least Mama's an actual word, but I hear ya on wanting him to call her grandma correctly. If it were me, I'd just keep correcting it every time he says it. I'd correct it in front of grandma too so she could be part of that correction. This one kiddo I babysit is now 3 and I've been watching him since he was 6 months old. Probably because he's learned to talk while in my care, and also because my DD calls me "mom", he began to as well. It was so silly. I did correct it though a lot because I knew his mom was probably bothered by it (though she never expressed that). Not every time (or in a mean way) but I'd just say my name when he'd say "mom" to me. He's finally able to pronounce it and has begun to now, although I will admit that there are still times he'll be yelling "Mom!!" to me. lmao. I assume as we continue to correct it, he'll eventually stop that altogether. If you & grandma do that as well I assume you DS will figure it out sooner or later.
