Grandma jewerly question?
How do you feel about your mom or MIL having your kids names on them? Like a necklace or a braclet.
My mom has a charm braclet with the grandkids initals on it. But my MIL has my DD's names on charms around her neck. I don't know how I feel about it. It kind of bugs me, I feel like she had her kids, put their names on you.
I should add that my MIL is very over the top and everything she has says "grandma" on it in some way. My mom is more subdued, but they BOTH love their grandkids more then anything.
I would never ask her to take it off because it's not something that is hurting anyone. I just feel like they are my kids and I want their names on me, not my MIL.
Thoughts?

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
Wouldn't bother me at all. For mother's day we actually got her a gold baby shoe necklace with DD's name and birth date engraved on it. I have a great relationship with my MIL and she watches DD full time.

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
I just had this discussion with DH over the weekend. It sounds like we have a very similar situation. MIL has a necklace with DS's birthstone and a baby boy/DS name charm and "grandma" and it kind of bothers me. I feel like if she has the need to display something it should be DH and his sister not my son. She had her kids...DS is mine.
I think part of it is that my mother is much more subtle and the complete opposite of my MIL and I also am not a huge fan of my MIL so I may be nitpicking but I don't think it is approproate and I don't like it at all but there really is nothing I can do about it.

This is my point exactly. She has the birthstone necklace with her boys and her grandkids on it, and I feel like that is more appropriate for her to be wearing. She also has something like this only bigger and it's very obnoxious looking,, if that makes sense.
And again, she is not hurting anyone. but they are my kids, not hers. I think she did it more for spite for her DH, as she made a big stink that she "treated herself" so I think there is more going on.Image Attachment(s):

They are her child's children. My mom said the love of a grandchild is intense and I won't understand it until I have one! I don't know your MIL but I think it shows how much she loves her grandkids.

You got that right
To the OP From your replies I don't think this has anything to do with a necklace. There seems to be other issues here.

My MIL aren't close but we now get along, it wouldn't bug me... My first year of my marriage she was plain rotten to me, back then it would have bugged me

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
My mom has a baby charm for each grandchild that are all on a pin. DS made 9 for her. The first two or three were on a necklace but then she had a pin made and they all look cute dangling together. She does not wear it all the time and there are no names engraved, just gold charms in the shape of a child. Each one different.

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
I don't think it would bother me. Both grandma's have a "grandma" necklace we gave them for Mother's day. They both have birthstones and the word "grandma", but no names. It wasn't because we didn't want the names there, the necklace we chose just didn't have that as an option.

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
My mom got a tattoo of a cute peanut she drew herself with a pink bow in her hair and is wearing a diaper. Underneath it has DD name..lol..My mom was super excited to get it done. I also would not care if mom or MIL wore my childs name.

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
We are getting my grandmother a bracelet with my DS and DD's names on them for her 80th birthday - I absolutely love the idea! I will probably get one for MIL too for her birthday.

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
I could see how it bugs you but like pp said, you'll never understand a grandmother's love until you are one - just like you never understood a mother's love until you became one. So, I'd leave it alone.

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
I have issues with my child's name on jewelry, clothing, etc. If it was just DS's initials, I'd be fine.

Re: Grandma jewerly question?
Since pretty much everything my MIL does - including breathing - annoys me this probably would annoy me a bit.
I do try to think first about if I would be annoyed if my own mother did something, and if the answer is no I try to let it go when MIL does it.
