Toddler wakes up crying
My 19 month old son has always woken up crying. He wakes up crying if in the morning to start the day, he wakes up crying after naps.
When do babies start to wake up and just play a little or call out mommy or daddy instead of crying?

Re: Toddler wakes up crying
My DD is 3 yrs old and still cries when she wakes up. I just don't understand why bc we are right next door and she is free to come in.

Toddler wakes up crying
My toddler does the same. Ocassionally, she'll wake up and not cry and it happens to be the mornings she sleeps the latest like 730am vs. 6am. Or when she naps the longest. Other than that she always wakes up crying!

Toddler wakes up crying
Hailey will after a nap occasionally. I assume it's usually a nightmare.

Toddler wakes up crying
dd is almost 2 and until Nov she was fine waking and playing in the am. I used to get a shower in and do stuff before getting her. Then she started crying/ screaming and not sttn. We finally just ended that horrible sleep pattern. She would scram/cry morning noon and night anytime she woke. it was exhausting. We are not crying/scraming anymore, now we are very loud at yelling mommy lol
dd1 never cried at wake ups. She happily played for a long time in her crib.
I think some kids do and some don't

Re: Toddler wakes up crying
DS1 was the same way. No matter where he slept he woke up moody. took time for him to calm down so we just gave him his time. DH and I hated when we had to be somewhere. Fought over who was going to wake him. Not sure when it happened, but he outgrew it. I also took away naps as soon as he turned 3 bc I was tired of waiting for him to calm down. We had rest time so he watched some TV when he'd nap and rest of the couch. I think shortly after that he started waking better. Now at 5 he usually wakes happy. DS2 is always a happy waker. No matter how long he naps or where he wakes with a smile. Such a nice change! LOL ETA - he used to be in daycare and they all knew he needed some time when he awoke then he'd be fine

Re: Toddler wakes up crying
He wakes up happy but will cry until I go get him. I know it won't last forever. Just feels like the minute he wakes I have to run in because the longer it takes me to go get him the louder he cries. The minute I get him he's happy.

Re: Toddler wakes up crying
My ds #2 woke up happy in the a.m. but always cried when he woke up from naps. We stopped the nap around 3 because he woke up like a tyrant and wouldn't go to bed at a normal time then.
I always wonder if they weren't ready to wake up yet and that is why they get upset because my ds#3 (17 months) wakes up upset from nap and in am most days.

Re: Toddler wakes up crying
My kids are miserable after naps. they will play a bit if they take a long nap so I assume they are still tired. DD wakes up in the middle of the night and I look on the monitor and ignore as long as I see she is ok. Otherwise I'll create a bad habit of her getting up if I go in or talk to her.

Toddler wakes up crying
DS wakes up perfectly in the morning and will play. When he gets tired of it he stands up and bangs his hand on the side of the crib and kind of yells. After naps he always cries.

Re: Toddler wakes up crying
DS did this until he was 4. But i also had a rule he couldn't leave the room until i came in. At 4 i let him leave the room and come wake me up.
