Re: My son is really sick...
In addition to the medication you're giving him put a cool mist in his room. This always seems to help my dds when they are congested.

My son is really sick...
Truthfully, I would get another opinion at pm pediatrics. I'm in a similar boat. My 2 and 3 yr olds have nasty colds with coughs. I'm not worried about my dd. Her cough isn't that bad. My 2 yr old ds sounds awful. Sounds like full-blown bronchitis. and he was with my parents, who both had bronchitis, in disney (we were there, too). I'm not one to push for antibiotics. He has only been on them once in his life, but this is insanity. I do realize if it is viral, antibiotics won't help, but I know him and he is just getting worse. We are doing nebulizer treatments, hicks vapor rub on chest and feet, cool mist humidifier, zarbees and benadryl. No improvement. Will be going to pm pediatrics if there is no improvement by tonight.

what helps my son at times when he is sick is starting a very hot shower and sitting in the bathroom for about 20mins with him...the steam helps break up mucus in the chest. We bring books..the ipad...and he will sit with us.
I was going to suggest this too. Hope he feels better soon.

Yes, I have been doing this -- I put it on so high that when I go into the room it looks like a rock concert hahaha all filled with a misty smoke colored haze I can barely see my hand in front of me!

Oh I'm sorry
It's just FOR HIM, all things considered, he's really sick.
Not like really sick in terms of SERIOUS life-altering illness thank God.

You know, my son has reactive airway disease. He has been so tight in the lungs that they actually cant hear any sounds and declared him clear. I wonder if a steroid might help him. I would call your Dr again. How is his color? He sounds really sick and lethargic for a cold
His color is actually very good.
And sometimes, here and there, his disposition will be good. Like, he'll go to play with his favorite toy but after a minute or two, just start coughing and/or crying and want to be held.
It's SO sad to see. And the cough sounds so bad it is terrifying.

Where is PM Pediatrics??
There are a few locations. One in Selden, one on DPA in North Babylon, etc. Just check their website. It's a walk-in urgent care. They are awesome. Keep in mind for the future they also do xrsys and stitches.

Just looked at their site - this is great to know.
I mean, sometimes you just can't shake that mom gut instinct that a second opinion is needed. And this is one of those times. I just want to hear it from someone else that there's nothing more we can do than what we are doing. I think only because it sounds so awful and he's so miserable where he normally is SO happy... even if he's a little under the weather, he muddles through well.
This is great to keep in mind for the future!!!

My son is really sick...
My ds has been sick like this many times. Let it run its course. Is there a fever??? If not don't give the Motrin. Also you don't want to give a cough suppressant because they should be coughing the stuff up.
As for daycare my ds goes unless he had a fever or is lethargic. My ds has had these for weeks so don't be shocked if it takes a few weeks.

Your last sentence has me concerned. Coupled with what you said in an earlier post about him gasping for breath when he is coughing makes me think he has whopping cough. My DD had it summer of 2013, and whenever she coughed it was terrifying. It took me a full week to get over the nerves from listening to it.

Definitely try zarbees, baby Vicks and ask dr for a script for a nebulizer....if he has a lot of mucus in his nose the nose Frieda is a lifesaver! It's completely unconventional, but it works so much better than the old school bulb aspirator. It's so hard when they are so young, but hang in there!

Re: My son is really sick...
Hope he's feeling better mama! It's so hard seeing them sick when they're so little.
My 18 mo DD is also very sick right now. Unlike your son though, she's been sick on and off since October. She started running a fever Tuesday night and woke up with. 104.6 yesterday!! We need to be super careful with her fevers because of febrile seizures. Took her to the pedi and she has a virus and we just need to keep her comfortable.
I hear you about work too. I am so thankful and grateful that work is flexible and I can work from home in these situations. All my leave would be gone from how sick she's been this fall/winter!!

My dd had a very similar sounding cough over the summer. Basically she was getting colds on top of colds and it made this terrible phlegmy cough linger over a month! Sometimes shed cough so much she threw up. It's terrible. I feel your pain. Hylands didn't do much for my dd but I would give her straight honey and that def helped.
Eta: get yourself the "snot sucker". It gets out so much more than that stupid bulb! Your kid will thank you.

Update -- My son is really sick...
Glad he's feeling better. I took my two to pm peds last night and they each have an ear infection, too. I'm so over the sickness this winter.
