Fever halfway through Antibiotic course?

I went to urgent care last Tuesday with DS who had a fever ranging from 102-103 for two days. They said it was strep throat, so I ended up keeping him home the whole week just to be safe.
He has been fever free since last Wednesday. Last night, he felt warm, took his temp., and it was 100.3. I didn't give him anything since he was acting fine and about to go to sleep. I sent him to daycare today after giving him one dose of Motrin since his temp. was still 100.3 this morning. A few hours after getting home, he was up to 101. Now, as he's falling asleep, it's 102.7. Why would he restart a fever while being halfway done with antibiotics? Is this strange? Or could he possibly have picked up another infection in the matter of one day after returning to daycare?

Any advice would be appreciated!

It's very possible another virus was picked up, possibly the flu. The antibiotic only protects against bacterial infections. This could be viral

Could be viral but it could also be he's just not on the right type of antibiotic. I just finished my third round of antibiotics for the same sinus infection b/c the first 2 didn't knock it out fully and it kept coming back.
