5 Month Old w/ diarrhea for a week?
My DD is almost 5 months old. Last Saturday night she threw up. I thought she just over-ate but the next day, Sunday she had really bad diarrhea.
I called the pediatrician that night and he said if she still had diarrhea the next day that we could try giving her soy formula instead and infant pedialite.
Monday morning she was soooo out of it and still had bad diarrhea so we gave her the soy formula and pedialite.
Tuesday, Wednesday and now Thursday she STILL has diarrhea! I called the ped last night and he made it seem like 3-4 diarrhea diapers is normal as long as she is still having wet diapers in between.
Today daycare seemed concerned that she had diarrhea 3 times in one day.
Tomorrow is almost one week since the vomit incident. Is diarrhea for this long normal? I feel like my pediatrician (who I usually love) made it seem like 5 diarrhea diapers per day isn't that big of a deal but it has been almost a week!
Any thoughts?

When that happened to my DS it turned out he had a milk allergy. (This was when he was about 3 months).

Wow. Could she be developing an allergy at 5 months? How did you find out? Just trial and error?

I remember my DD had her 1st stomach virus at 6 months. The diarrhea lasted for just over a week and although the doctors said it was totally normal in infants, it was a nightmare for us!

Sounds like a stomach virus. If so, it could take up to 10 days to pass. Make sure they stay hydrated.

Thanks so much Ladies. I am hoping ur right and it is a virus that will pass. I think I have changed over 100 diapers in the past few days, I debated putting a garbage bag directly around her waist lol

Re: 5 Month Old w/ diarrhea for a week?
sounds just like DD at 6 months and she got a wicked stomach bug that ripped thru the daycare room. It spared no one. She was vomiting and diarrhea diapers for 5 days. The ped wanted to take a stool sample the 6th day but that is the day she turned the corner and was eating fine. For me I also introduced a new foos a tthat time and thought it was that also but the bug stayed with her for a little over a week to finally get out of her system. But as long as shes got wet diapers she is not getting dehydrated so you are ok. I hope she feels better

Unfortunately, yes, diarrhea can stick around for a while. The longest my DD had it was 2 weeks. What a nightmare!

When my DD was that age she caught a horrible stomach bug from some relatives who were visiting and she had diarrhea for over a week. It was awful Called the ped and they said it just had to run it's course and to keep her hydrated and only call if she wasn't making wet diapers, producing tears etc

Has the baby seen the doctor? I remember there was a person on here with a baby with bad diarrhea (for a while) and it turned out to be something serious like a C-diff or something like that. It could also be milk allergy. I would go in and want to get some tests going. And if the ped was lax I would be going to a GI.

Poor baby! If she threw up and was out of it, I don't think it would be an allergy. Seems more like an illness. The stomach does take awhile to heal. It could also be the start of teething. Maybe ask your doctor about introducing probiotics? We did that with dd around that age.

5 Month Old w/ diarrhea for a week?
This past Easter my DD started diarrhea that lasted for 2 and a half weeks! No vomiting just diarrhea.
After a week and a half we took her in for a stool sample which came back normal. We even gave her probiotics three times a day and it still took 2 and a half weeks to go away.
Dr said it was just a virus
