For those of you who had your baby baptized...
Did you need letters from the churches of the godparents saying that they are active members of that parish?
I just heard that some parishes require this. Please let me know if you did or if you didn't as well as what church you belong to.
Thanks!

Nope - my church just asked if they were catholic not even what parish they belonged to.

Re: For those of you who had your baby baptized...
Yes, the church needed letters stating that both godparents had completed their sacraments and are catholics in good standing-- whatever that is. The churches did it the same day that the godparents requested it and faxed it to our church.

All we were asked is what church they belonged to and if they were active Catholics.

Re: For those of you who had your baby baptized...
Our parish, St. Elizabeth's in Melville just asked that one of the godparents be catholic, we didn't need to show any proof.

Needed proof that the godparents received the sacraments from their own parish. Either a letter or the official record.

Re: For those of you who had your baby baptized...
We belong to St. Dominic's in Oyster Bay. They just asked us the godparents name, if they were Catholic (at least one of them had to be) and that was it. They did not need any paper showing that.

Re: For those of you who had your baby baptized...
My church required a letter saying that they were members of a parish. They had to go and get letters that included their church's seal. We belong to St. Josephs in Garden City.

Re: For those of you who had your baby baptized...
My church did not require a letter. They asked that at least oen godparent be Catholic so they can sign the baptismal certificate. I needed a letter for both my nieces - but this was in SI and Queens.
St barnabus in Bellmore.

Re: For those of you who had your baby baptized...
Ours asked us nothing....they could have been Jewish for all they knew. My brothers church(St Agnes Cathedral) required proof from my husband and myself when we were Godparents.
