You'll never get those early weeks and months back, so I say take the unpaid leave.

I was laid off right before DS was born, so I was able to stay home with him for 6.5 months and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Re: A WWYD ? Regarding Maternity Leave

Thank you everyone. I'm leaning towards requesting the full 30 days, but I feel like I'm taking advantage of my agency. I guess that's why it's there though. It is correct that they won't pay out the health premium as well, but that's a non-issue for me because I am under DH's insurance and not my agency's.

A WWYD ? Regarding Maternity Leave

If you can afford to take all 30 days and will still have some time to take later in the year then I would.

If you can afford to take unpaid leave and you believe your job is secure I would definitely take the extra time.

This!

Agreed assuming that's what you want to do. I know some people who wanted to get back to work ASAP.
