10 mo old sleep regression
DD is almost 10 months and has always been a great sleeper. For the past week she has been impossible at night (naps she's great). I literally have to stand over her crib for 30 min until she falls asleep. If I leave the room she is hysterical! I do let her CIO but not for a very long time. I just feel so bad hearing her crying for so long that I go back in the room. For the past 3 nights she has been waking up at 2:30am and crying for me to pick her up. I am so damn tired at the time that I bring her in bed with us and then of course she falls asleep in seconds. She has become so attached to me lately and I just feel so guilty letting her cry herself to sleep. Please help. TIA

Re: 10 mo old sleep regression
i dont have any advice but am having the same problem - dd was 10 months on the 16th
napping is a nightmare - screaming her head off but if i take her out she rubs her eyes and is so cranky.
going to sleep isnt bad, but last night she woke up hysterical at 3am standing and banging on her crib. she was crying so much she was choking. i picked her up and rocked her back to sleep
i hope it passes soon for us both

ugh its terrible! I hope it passes too but I fear I am creating a bad habit by bringing her into bed with me.

Re: 10 mo old sleep regression
We've been dealing with this, too, for a few weeks now. It's separation anxiety, which very commonly starts at this age. Our babies realize that mommy (or daddy) aren't there when they wake up, and want us.
For DS, I've been trying to go in and just rub his back, rather than picking him up. It usually settles him. I know others will disagree, but IMO, the worst thing to do is CIO for separation anxiety. I'm all for CIO to go to sleep, but for separation anxiety, DS has to know DH or I will come to him when he gets scared. For us, it's a completely different cry so I can tell when DS needs us and when he's just fussing.

You are going to get very different responses to this question depending on who you ask and what their opinion is on sleeping training and CIO. It also depends on your baby. For my DS, when he started to whine and cry at bedtime (around your DD's age) I couldn't be in the room with him because as soon as I left he would cry even more. I didn't want to get into the habit of staying in the room with him until he fell asleep because it wasn't reasonable that I would be able to do that every night. I didn't want it to become a learned behavior for him. After a couple of nights of whining and crying at bedtime, he went right to sleep and was fine. He didn't remember crying the next morning and he certainly doesn't remember now at the age of four! That was his personality though. My DD is now 7.5 months old. She is different. If she is whining or crying at bedtime, I CAN go in to her bedroom to soothe her, give her a little more bottle, smooth her hair, rock her and then try putting her down again 10-15 minutes later. This usually works. She's just a different baby and can handle seeing me again and not getting upset. Also, just to throw it out there, could your DD be teething? Maybe try infant ibuprofen tonight and see if it helps?

last night was torture! she kept us up for 2 hrs! She would stop crying when I went in the room and would fall asleep but as soon as I left she would be hysterical. I finally just let her CIO until she fell asleep. I have gotten her into the habit of taking her in bed w/me & that's what she expects at this point. Could she be teething? definitely! But I honestly don't think it has anything to do with it. I am desperate for advice as I am sleep derived and very frustrated at this point.

How long did she cry for? the past few nights have been tough for DS also, and we've had to take him into bed. He's 7 months though..

If she's teething though, that could be escalating the crying because she's in pain and upset. I would try the advil and see if it helps. If it were me, I'd probably do CIO because you know that it's you she wants. She just has to learn that "hang out time" is not at 2 am! There's no one right answer, sometimes you just have to try out different things and see what works. I'm sorry you are so tired! Good luck!
