7 month old sleep habit regression

Sydnie used to be really good about falling asleep. Lately its only gotten worse. She is screaming right now. I tried CIO a few weeks ago and she cried for 2 mins, started vomiting and choked on it.

Any ideas why?

She has no teeth yet. I think she's just working me. It's quite frustrating. I thought by 7 months old we'd be getting better rest but its taking an hour to put her down and she STILL waked up between 3 and 4 for a bottle and I am too scared of her choking to CIO.

Any encouraging words would be appreciated.

Signed,
Tired and frustrated

Re: 7 month old sleep habit regression

Ugh! This is my biggest fear... Reilly is also a really good sleeper and it's like I'm waiting for it to all end. Chat Icon What has worked for us is DD getting her bottle right before bed. We change her diaper, put on her pjs and sleepsack and sit on the couch and giver her her last bottle of the night. She basically falls asleep while eating and will take her time but does end up finishing the bottle. If she starts to stir a little, we put her pacifier in her mouth and then she falls asleep within a few minutes. We then put her in her crib and turn on the noisemaker that came with her PNP- on the running water/waterfall setting. It is pretty soothing sounding and it seems to keep her calm and sleeping in her bed. Maybe this routine would help Sydnie? Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

As you already know, I am a CIO mommy here so I don't really have any suggestions. Chat Icon

I do have the book "the no cry sleep solution". I started to read it way back when and then put it down, never picked it back up.

Want to borrow it?

This has pretty much been our routine also but quite honestly I don't think it's the best one either since they are learning bottle=sleep and not learning to self soothe. But she used to even go in the crib awake and fall asleep on her own. I hope this just means a tooth or something. Chat Icon

Re: 7 month old sleep habit regression

DS did this at 7 months. He was getting teeth, and we also travelled right around this time, and I think being in a different house threw him off.

We tried CIO, but gave up on it. I read some of "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child", and found lots of things that weren't working for him in terms of sleep. He was taking his morning nap too late, often skipped a second nap, and we put him to bed too late. We made some changes to his routines, and it helped a lot. I would look at these things, even if you still want to do CIO.

We also established a sleep routine at this point, and still do it to this day with some tweeking.

Re: 7 month old sleep habit regression

ds, at 6 months, has recently started giving me issues.. but it really looks like it is due to his teething... i just went out and got the teething tabs which i am only giving to him at night because i dont want to over use them... about a month agao i started to establish a true routine which has helped alot... basically it is bath, book, bottle, bed... he is in bed at 730 and doesnt wake up until 8am...

Re: 7 month old sleep habit regression

Some kids will vomit when doing CIO. Because of this reason, some don't continue with CIO. However according to the books i've read, if you want to do CIO and this is your situation... then you just go in, clean her up and put her right back down again. You want her to learn that vomitting won't get her out of the situation. If you go get her after she vomits every time, she'll learn to do just that to get what she wants.

Now i know she was choking and it scared you. It would have scared the cr*p out of me as well. Just thought i'd let you know what the books say. Chat Icon

I'm sure this has been asked before, but what's her schedule like? routine?

Re: 7 month old sleep habit regression

DS went through this from 9-12 months! It was HORRIBLE!

Did she by any change learn to crawl or pull herself to standing recently? When DS hit those milestones is when his sleep went down hill. His Ped said it was normal and happens in alot of kids.

We did CIO at 12 months and luckily DS responded well to it. My ped warned me that he might throw up (he never did though) and said just go in clean it up and start with CIO again.
