Re: How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween? Update

For me and my kid, it would be a big deal to skip trick or treating. He's been asking about it for weeks. It would be hard for me to say no to bringing him. I have taken off from work some years and took him, and I found most people don't answer their doors until after 3:30-4:00 when it is a weekday. We don't have a lot of traditions and this is one of them, so I would be hard pressed to give it up. And as someone else said, there aren't a lot of years we have where they want to do this with us, so I am taking advantage of every one of them.

I do remember who was not at the church for my wedding, and it was mostly the people who had kids. It didn't bother me, because they were able to come later to the reception. lI would probably refuse the offer for him to be a ring bearer anyway, even if the wedding wasn't on Halloween.

Honestly, I wouldn't just be bummed, I'd be pissed. If it were a Saturday or Sunday, no big deal; a Friday would infuriate me..of course, I'd keep that to myself Chat Icon

I believe the OP's DC are around my son's age--in other words, in pre-k next Halloween (?). My son won't even get out of school until 3pm then. Plus, I like to take my time getting ready for a wedding...go for a blowout that day, etc. So yeah, very inconvenient. I'm also coming from a place where a family member scheduled two of her DC's christenings on Mothers' Day--one of them my first. And she also takes over another holiday every year to celebrate her sons' birthdays.

So, what would I do? Probably stew for a year and then try and get someone else to trick or treat with my kids and attend the wedding...ceremony and all.

Re: How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween? Update

I got married on Halloween (it was a Saturday).

It may have been slightly different because it was a Saturday...but any people with children I asked didn't have a problem with my date choice. Many of them brought their children trick or treating during the day and a few skipped church to do it (which didn't bother me). My reception didn't start until 7.

Anyway, what I would do in this situation is send my DD trick or treating with someone else while I attend the wedding.

I read your update, and I think it's crappy they planned their wedding on Halloween and expect your child to skip his Halloween to be the ring bearer. Selfish actually.

Thanks everyone for all your opinions!
They just dont get Life with kids lol. this is the wedding dh is going to a bachelor party for in colorodo for 4 days. I'm "over it for now". He will be almost 4 at the time so hopefully he won't know the difference. I'll be off from work that day so maybe I can take them to tanger or the mall (if they still do trick or treating) earlier in the day.
Thanks again!

I have to be honest, it wouldn't phase me at all. Your DHs best friend gets married once, Halloween is every year .

THIS. A best friends wedding only happens once, Halloween every year and there are a ton of Halloween events throughout Halloween week that I would try to enjoy with my DD instead. If my DD was invited to the wedding and especially asked to be in the wedding party I would most definitely not be bummed, I would love to make a different Halloween memory with my DD by being at a wedding with her.

That being said, who cares about anyone else, you are entitled to feel bummed if that's how you feel about it!

Re: How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween? Update

We have at least 3 other Halloween related events the weekend before and after Halloween where he can dress up in costume and eat candy. Plus, the last two years Halloween was ruined because of storms in our area. We were able to participate in trick or treating events the weekend before Halloween both year so at least DS got to dress up and still celebrate. It wouldn't bother me too much to have a wedding on that day.
