Brushing Teeth-- A Nightmare!!!!

DD is 21 months old and she absolutely will NOT let me brush her teeth.. Its like torture, she is the most easy going kid with pretty much everything else but she just refuses to let me get in there! She loves holding the toothbrush but she will just put it in her mouth and suck the toothpaste! If I actually try to brush, she throws a fit!

Any one else experience this? Any tips?

Re: Brushing Teeth-- A Nightmare!!!!

Been there. Done that...And my son has sensory issues and the worst part is the oral issues.. After battling with him for months, I finally found that the kid electric toothbrush worked the best. I let him hold and use a small one while I brushed and I learned how to do it fast and thorough...

I found that a few things worked for us.
I let him "brush" his teeth for a few minutes.
But he LOVES getting the cup to rinse his mouth out.
so I say to him it's my turn and he gets the cup and plays with the water while I brush.
I also count to 6 as I brush so he knows when he can use the cup.

It's normal though. Keep at it!

We sing a song.
I brush the kids teeth first. Then I let them do it.

I tell him I'm Doc Mc Stuffins and sing that stupid check up song. Hoping this also works when we go to this 2 year old ped appointment.

We let DD go to the store and pick out her own spinning toothbrush and toothpaste. After that, we did not have a problem.

Btdt.
Sounds odd, but what helped my dd was going to the ped dentist.
