Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
When did you start solids for your LO? My ebf baby just had her 4 months doctors appt and her doctor told us to start rice cereal now, then oatmeal and at 5 months start veggies, then 6 months everything else. I thought ebf babies dont start anything until 6 months but now my husband is arguing with me that the doctor said it and im not a doctor and we should do what the doctor said argh

Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
All drs are different with when to start food. It seems to range from 4months to 6 months. It also depends on the baby as well. My pediatrician is having my son start at 6 months. There have been some research that starting later is better for food allergy reasons and since both my husband and I have some food allergies we were happy our dr suggested starting at 6 months

Re: Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
We waited till 6 months based on my own research which the dr supported. But they did want us to start cereal and I skipped to veggies, avocado and then sweet potato. I based my menus from wholesome baby food. I love my drs, but don't really discuss food or sleep with them, I do what I think is right LOL.

Re: Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
I started at 6 months as recommended by the WHO and AAP. My ped suggested starting at 4 months but was fine with me waiting.
If you want some info for your DH: Why Delay Solids?

Re: Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
Our ped recommends to start solids at 4 months for both formula and bf babies, we started at 4 months. DD loved it too

Re: Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
My ped said we could start at 4 months, or wait til 6 months since DD was EBF. I waited until she was almost 7 months. She EBF like a champ, and was growing & thriving so I felt no need to rush solids. Lots of research says its best for babies to only have breast milk for the first 6 months of life. I wasn't ready to interrupt our BF routine before then.
Just b/c your Dr suggested something doesn't mean you have to do it (assuming your LO is growing and all is well).

Re: Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
4 months is best for allergies (kids who start at 4 have fewer food allergies)
6 months is best for obesity in FORMULA fed children only (formula fed kids who started solids at 4 months were more obese later in life than formula fed kids t 6 months, no difference in breast fed kids at all).
We started both kids at 4 months. My ped felt strongly that celiac disease was due to delaying barley. Both my kids were breast fed until about 5 months.
All this info is on the American Academy of pediatrics site.

Re: Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
Both of my EBF babies started at 6 months. I was planning on starting solids at 6 months regardless of what my pediatrician said (he fully supported my decision though). I personally didn't see any reason to start earlier.

6 months. There is NO need before that. I question my doctor all the time - not in a bad way.

Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
My older DS was 5 months. Younger DS is 5 months old today and we hope to start him in the next few weeks. DS # 1 was BF & FF, DS # 2 is EBF.

Re: Breastfed babies- when to start solids?
We waited till 6 months which was based on my own research. Do some reading and show it to your DH. Also my DD couldn't hold her head up good or sit well so that was another reason for waiting. My doctor said I could start sooner if I wanted but I said I didn't want to and she was fine with that.
How long do you want to breastfeed? I only ask bc my DD started dropping feedings when she started solids and my supply is slowly dwindling but I don't have a great supply to begging with. I only have 2 months to go and I really saw my supply take a hit when we went to 3 meals a day at 9 mos. So my advice (if you want advice) is to take it slow with the solids.

I hope to breastfeed her until a year.
Thanks everyone for your advice!
