Moms of EBF babies who have started solids
What is your daily schedule of feedings liike? DC one and two were not successfully breastfed so by the time we hit this phase they were on bottles.
DS is 5 mos old Dr suggested rice cereal which we have given him and he likes it. He's getting that once per day. But I feel like I should probably work it up to more just not sure where to fit it in. Also how long did you do plain cereal b4 you started mixing in baby food. Did you start with veggies?
Thanks!

Re: Moms of EBF babies who have started solids
DS is 5 mos. now. He started rice cereal at 4 mos. We only give it to him once a day around dinner time (about 2 1/2 tsp. dry mixed with about an ounce of BM). That's the plan until his 6 month check up. Up until 6 months, they don't need anything else. The cereal is just to get them used to the idea of swallowing.
So, at his 6 month check up we'll discuss with the doctor fruits, veggies and maybe moving on to oatmeal.

Re: Moms of EBF babies who have started solids
We started DD on rice cereal at 4.5 months. She is EBF but her weight percentile was dropping and she seemed to be getting hungrier during the day and I didn't want to supplement with formula so the Dr gave us the green light.
I found that the rice cereal seemed to upset her stomach - although it could have just been coincidence bc she came down with a cold shortly after. We moved to oatmeal. At her 5 month check up, the doctor said we could start fruits and veggies and I could give her 2 meals a day. I should mention that DD was showing A LOT of interest in eating solids from 4 months on. And she took to the cereal great!
I was giving her cereal and a fruit in the morning and cereal and a veggie in the evening but I just recently ommited the cereal in the evening bc it seemed to be backing her up.
Now at almost 6 months, she has cereal and fruit in am and a veggie and fruit in evening. She is still on stage 1. I am going to start her on Stage 2 really soon though bc she cries when she is done eating for more. I'm also thinking about adding a mid afternoon "snack". She always seems eager to eat especially when she sees me eating something.
I think each baby is different though, so follow your LO's lead. My DD LOVES to eat and since she is so teeny, I'm not too worried about over feeding her.

we started rice once per day around dinner time. He still juts his tongue out so I have to work around it. Is this normal? He smiles so he seems to like it but not know how to eat it KWIM? rather than hating it? How long before you added something to it? I could wait for the 6 mos visit. We just had the 5 mos visit where Dr. suggested the rice.
