PIO Advice
Anyone have any advice about PIO? The last 2 times I used suppositories so I am slightly clueless although I have watched a million youtube videos and read several blog posts. The nurse also made circles on my lower back/upper butt about where my DH needs to do the injections.
Any additional advice would be appreciated!!

Re: PIO Advice
I always iced for like 5 min while DH got the needle prepared and had him stick me. Then he would massage the area for me to make sure it was moving around and not just in one spot.

Re: PIO Advice
Lots of people swear by icing it first - and honestly, I guess its just different strokes for different folks! For me, I found icing it first made me get welts the next day. This time around (meaning my most recent IVF cycle), I used a heating pad before and after. My RE's office explained to me that you want to keep the area warm. You're injecting an oil, so if it's kept warm it will keep it from hardening and forming a lump.
Oh - and before you draw the needle with the PIO you should fill a cup with very warm water and heat the vial in it. Just drop it in and let it heat from the "bath" essentially. You want the heat to thin out the oil.
eta: It's good to massage the area after too, like others have said... to keep the oil from just lumping in one spot.

Re: PIO Advice
Thanks Ladies!
My DH was shocked by the size of the needle. It probably didn't help that I was being a total baby about it.
I heated the oil as well as the injection site. He then inserted the needle/the oil. The needle did not hurt at all, which surprised me.
I massaged it for 10-15 minutes with a heating pad and I now I have had a heating pad on it for lan additional 5-10 minutes.
We will see what it is like in the am...

I agree with heating the oil. He pinched the area when he put it in, then rubbed for at least five minutes

I would always take the bottle and rub it in my hands first to warm up the oil a little. After the shot I made sure to massage the area so it didnt sit it one spot. That was the worst when it would get like a lump. Heat helps...

Re: PIO Advice
No lump or bruise - just a little sore. Let's hope they all go like that!
