Paint or floors first?

So we are planning on painting, then having the guys come do the floors (sand. stain and polyurethane) and crown moldings--is this right?

We know after the floors are done you cannot walk on them for a few days so it makes sense to paint first we think--and the crown moldings go on AFTER painting?

thanks I am pretty clueless with this stuff lol

There will be dust all over your walls no matter which way you go. If you paint first be sure the paint is totally dry and don't bother painting the base molding until after the floors are done.

I would have said floors first but, when we did it our floor guy said paint first.

Re: Paint or floors first?

i would do paint, crown molding, floors. That way when you paint you don't have to worry about being perfect to the molding / ceiling - the crown molding will cover any slips. And we painted before floors - that way you don't have to stress about ruining your new floors!

ITA. When we painted our bedroom, paint dripped all over the carpet which we were planning on ripping up anyway so it didn't matter to us.

Re: Paint or floors first?

I agree paint first. As long as the paint is nice and dry, you wipe the dust off from the floor.

This is what we did. And yes, we had to touch up the base moulding a bit after. Not too much though, the guy did a great job.

Most floor places use the dustless sanders. Yea, they'll be some dust, but not like it used to be or if you were doing it yourself.
